Gresini Racing Team Moto 3: Malaysian motorcycle grand prix - Qualifying & Race

Today’s Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit saw Gresini Racing Team Moto3 racer Enea Bastianini crossing the finish line in eighth position: after being able to catch the leading group in the early stages of the race, the 17-year-old rider from Rimini has unfortunately lost contact whit it when he found himself in the midst of Efren Vazquez and Hiroki Ono’s bikes, crashed in front of him.

An episode after which Bastianini had to run a lonely race, with a gap of few seconds from the group leading the race, formed by eight riders, then reduced to seven after the fall of Francesco Bagnaia. Even though he had no more references in front of him, which is important on the Malaysian track, Enea always maintained a good pace, proving that he could fight for a podium finish.

Thanks to today’s result, Bastianini heads now to the last round of the season, scheduled for 8 November at Valencia, third in the Championship with 196 points, with a margin of 20 on the closest pursuer, Romano Fenati.

ENEA BASTIANINI (8th)
“I was waiting the final stages of the race to push hard, but unfortunately on lap five Vazquez and Ono have fallen in front of me and I had to go in the midst of their bikes. I was still lucky to be able to continue my race, even though I lost contact with the leaders, accumulating a gap which it was no more possible to close. Too bad, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, just like it happened at Phillip Island... I’m really disappointed because we could still fight for the second place in the Championship, but now I lost it. Anyway we must not give up, there is still a race and at Valencia we will give our best as always”.
FAUSTO GRESINI
“Considering the bad luck, having found Vazquez and Ono’s bikes in front of him, Bastianini at least was able to continue, but the incident affected his race, causing him to lose contact with the leading group and opening a gap that was possible to close. Enea then raced all alone, while in this track is critical to stay with other riders, both for the slipstream and to save energy”.
