Bentley wins GT Asia teams’ title

 ▪ #bentley Team Absolute takes the GT Asia Series title

 ▪ Team takes pole position, a race win and a podium in Thailand

 ▪ Second championship win for the #bentleycontinentalgt3

26 October 2015, Crewe - #bentley Team Absolute has taken the GT Asia Series teams’ title with its trio of #bentley Continental GT3s, after a strong season that ended with a pole position, race win and podium in the series finale in Thailand. The weekend started well for #bentley Team Absolute, as former #bentley works driver Duncan Tappy (GB) and new team-mate for the #event Benny Simonsen (DN) put their car on pole position for race one. Despite it being a debut in the Continental #gt3 for the Dane, the pair dominated the race and crossed the line in first place. In race two, Tappy and Simonsen finished just behind team-mates Adderly Fong (HK) and Keita Sawa (JP) who were pushing to take the driver’s title, but narrowly missed out, despite getting a podium result. “We are thrilled to have won the team title in our inaugural season of #racing in the GT Asia Series, and to have shown the strength and speed of #bentley Team Absolute amongst such a competitive field,” said Absolute #racing director Ingo Matter. “Finishing runners-up in the Drivers Classification with Adderly and Sawa showed our consistency this year, while Duncan and Benny’s win in Car 77 in Round 10 was a great result. We’d like to congratulate the GT Asia Series Champion Darryl O’Young in what was an extremely competitive season, and we look forward to coming back even stronger in 2016.” The championship title is the second win for the Continental #gt3, which won the Blancpain Sprint Series title just a fortnight ago. “To have two championship titles on two continents after just two years of competing is a huge success for the #bentleycontinentalgt3,” commented Bentley’s Press Information Mike Sayer Product and Motorsport Communications Manager mike.sayer@bentley.co.uk +44(0)7507 846782 Rebecca Jones Motorsport Communications Officer rebecca@viprmedia.com +44(0)7866 701161 #bentley Motors Ltd Pyms Lane Crewe CW1 3PL www.bentleymedia.com communications@bentley.co.uk @BentleyComms Director of Motorsport Brian Gush. “Bentley Team Absolute has done a fantastic job representing our brand in Asia and they fully deserve this title. Congratulations to everyone involved.” The team next races its #bentleycontinentalgt3 in the GT World Cup on 22 November as Fong takes on the 60-minute race on the streets of Macau. Driver Quotes Duncan Tappy, 77: “It has been a fantastic privilege to race in GT Asia with #bentley Team Absolute this season. They are one of the best outfits I have ever worked with and they deserve to take the teams’ title. The Continental #gt3 is proving that it is one of the best #gt3 cars in the world. To take two titles in a matter of weeks is a fantastic achievement for everyone back in the UK who has worked hard to make this happen.” Adderly Fong, Car 08: I think this has been a strong campaign for #bentley and, against a field of top European professionals, we impressed a lot of people. Today is motivation for next year. It’s disappointing that we didn’t win the drivers’ title, but I want to come back.”
