MXGP - Nagl claims third consecutive podium result in Mexico

More podium success brings #maxnagl closer to the top of the #mxgp standings

Wrapping up round five of the Motocross World Championship in #mexico with two third place #moto finishes as well as third in the GP’s overall classification, Rockstar Energy #husqvarna Factory Racing’s #maxnagl has moved into the top five of the #mxgp championship standings.

Capitalising on the hard work put in by his Rockstar Energy #husqvarna Factory #racing team in readying his #fc450 for the high altitude Mexican GP, Nagl stormed out of the gate to grab the holeshot in both #mxgp motos.

Holding on to fourth for the most part of the opening race the German made a late charge that allowed him to pass Evgeny Bobryshev for an eventual third position at the chequered flag. Finding himself in third early on in #moto two, Nagl went on to round out the GP of #mexico with another third place finish.

For Nagl’s #mxgp teammate Christophe Charlier a fall during Saturday’s qualifying race almost meant the end of his Mexican GP. Managing to put the crash behind him the Frenchman came back strong on Sunday to collect 13th a 12th place results from the two #mxgp motos.

In the MX2 category it was another GP of mixed fortunes for Rockstar Energy #husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie. Running second in the opening #moto the Brit was forced to retire due to a mechanical issue. Anstie then powered his FC 250 to another strong start in the second #moto, going on to finish as runner-up.

Injuring his hand during the qualifying race, Thomas Covington had to endure another GP #racing in pain. Fighting hard in both MX2 motos the American wrapped up his participation in the Mexican GP with 12th and 14th place results.

The Rockstar Energy #husqvarna Factory #racing team will now head back to Europe for round six of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Latvia on April 30, May 1.

Max Nagl: “It was another positive weekend for us. My team has done a tremendous amount of work to prepare my bike for the high altitude of the track in Leon. We changed the setup for this race and managed to earn the holeshot in both motos. In the first #moto I was fourth behind Bobryshev but kept pushing hard and managed to make a pass for third with two laps to go. In the second #moto I got another good start and found myself in third position. Desalle and Bobryshev were really pushing to pass but I managed to improve my speed towards the end of the race and that’s positive. We are all working hard and I’m happy we’re getting closer to our goals every time out.”

Christophe Charlier: “For me it was a difficult weekend. I crashed in the qualifying race and had a bad gate pick for the final motos. I tried not to let that affect me and focused on consistently putting in fast laps. I’m still working on my physical condition but I can honestly say I’m getting closer to where I want to be in every race. We are now going back home in Belgium for a few weeks and my plan is to work as hard as I can for the following GP in Latvia. The feeling is good, I enjoy my time #racing the #fc450 and I’m positive the results will soon start coming our way.”

Max Anstie: “We’re really moving in the right direction with things. Two great starts and some good speed, the only disappointing thing was obviously the first #moto DNF with a few laps to go. But the second #moto was all good. I felt good and really enjoyed the track here. We’ll get back to Europe now and keep working for the next GP.”

Thomas Covington: “It has certainly not been the weekend I was hoping for. I slipped off in my qualifying race and immediately I felt something wrong with my hand. I’m not sure what I’ve done but I needed pain killing injections for both motos. I’ll get it fully checked out when I’m back in Europe. I just got the points I could in each #moto. It’s really frustrating but I’m hoping I’ll be over this soon.”
