Following a successful inaugural season in 2015, the #audi Sport #tt Cup enters its second season this weekend at the Hockenheimring. The junior series is supported in its second year by exclusive DTM partner #hankook, and features a total of 14 races spread over seven weekends. Exhibiting a very high level of consistency and maximum safety, the premium maker’s Ventus race tyre is the ideal partner for the young drivers and facilitates their route into professional motor #racing

Hockenheim/Germany, 7th May 2016 – This year, 16 regular drivers from eleven different countries will take part in the #audi Sport #tt Cup. The size of the field can rise to a maximum 24, with the addition of guest starters, former racers, celebrities and journalists. “125 youngsters signed up for our selection procedure and were put through their paces at various trials. Our main focus was naturally on driving ability, but media and sponsorship were also important issues, without which very little is possible nowadays. We are now down to the final 16 drivers, who we want to introduce to professional motor #racing in our series,” says project leader Philipp Mondelaers.

The #audi Sport #tt Cup is seen as an alternative to FIA Formula 3, which was and remains a springboard to the elite world of FIA Formula One for many drivers. Philipp Mondelaers: “We offer a different entry-level option and intend to make it easier for our drivers to progress onto the GT scene, which has developed significantly in recent years. Four of our drivers from last season are now settled in GT #racing series. That is a great success for us, and one we are looking to build on.”

The cars used in the #audi Sport #tt Cup are all identical: only the tyre pressure and anti-roll bars can be changed. As such, the ability to look after the tyres is one of the most important topics when the young drivers receive their technology training. “The tyre is dependent on the way it is treated and whether you can find the right pressure. Drivers who are unable to do that will find themselves trailing, although they may be very talented,” the project leader explains.

Philipp Mondelaers is full of praise for Hankook’s premium race tyre, which offers the young drivers a lot of security. “The #hankook race tyre is extremely consistent. The drivers know exactly where they stand with it. We are very happy with the tyre.”
