SEAT Leon Eurocup returns to Silverstone this weekend
- The British circuit hosts the second round of the international series this weekend
- Vice-Champion, Stian Paulsen (Stian Paulsen Racing), leads the current standings in front of Mikel Azcona (PCR Sport) and Lucile Cypriano (JSB Competition)
- The Frenchwoman also heads the ‘Ladies Trophy’ category
After the opening round of the season hosted at Estoril (Portugal) three weeks ago, the #seatleoneurocup returns to action at the historic British circuit of #silverstone this weekend. The famed layout – for the third time in a row – will stage the second fixture of the successful single-make series.
With more than sixty years as a world-famous motorsport venue and after several modifications, the prestigious track is a total of 5.9km in length, with the layout featuring eight left hand turns and ten to the right. The design means that it is one of the fastest and most anticipated challenges of the season for the 14 participants and 9 nationalities represented on the 2016 #seatleoneurocup grid.
Last season it was front-runner Stian Paulsen (Stian Paulsen Racing) who tasted sweet success in the first race on #uk soil, and now, arriving as leader of the series, has to be regarded as one of the strong favourites for further spoils. The Norwegian counts on a win and one podium finish from his efforts in Portugal, and therefore carries a lot of momentum and confidence into his next challenge. His nearest pursuer is Spaniard Mikel Azcona (PCR) who will head over the English Channel determined to make life complicated for his rival.
Azcona won the very first race of the year at Estoril and secured a fifth place the next day in the second sprint and expects to shine again as the cars line-up for the second time this term. Hot on their heels is Frenchwoman Lucile Cypriano (JSB Competition), third in the series and leading the way in the ‘Ladies Trophy’, who is extremely motivated for #silverstone after celebrating second place in the second race around the Portuguese curves. Her youth, combined with fierce talent, will be one of the decisive factors for the meeting this coming weekend that fans of the #seatleoneurocup will be able to witness at #silverstone.
Local driver Alex Morgan (Wolf Racing), is eighth in the standings after going 8-5 in the two Estoril outings and will be circulating a course that he knows extremely well. The same could be said of his countryman in the #seatleoneurocup, Lucas Orrock (Zest Clealand) who, despite his tender years, could spring a surprise or two.
Trucks are packed, cars prepped, training completed and everything is set for the next appointment of the #seatleoneurocup that will begin with practice on Friday, then Qualifying Practice on Saturday followed by the first race. On Sunday, the second furious dash will take place as #silverstone braces itself for a full programme of excitement, thrills and close #racing.
"For the third time in a row we travel to #silverstone. After the first race in Portugal we have series’ leaders in the forms of Stian Paulsen and Lucile Cypriano in the ‘Ladies trophy’. Both will hope to continue setting the pace in the points table after the visit to Britain, but I’m sure that the other competitors will make life difficult for them. One of the small factors we have to consider is the changeable climate and it is something we inevitably cannot control. The circuit at #silverstone is really fast and we tend to see a lot of changes for the lead, so I’m sure we will all enjoy the intensity of the la #seat Leon Eurocup this weekend” commented Jaime Puig, Director of #seat Sport.
