Bobryshev fourth in Italian qualifying as Paulin makes racing return

Evgeny Bobryshev finished fourth in today’s muddy qualifying race for the MXGP of Trentino, although the Russian felt that he struggled a little with the conditions and that there’s more to come tomorrow.

Gautier Paulin also made his #racing return today, and his pace in the Timed Practice especially was strong. For a long time the Frenchman was fastest, ending the session an eventual third quickest.

The qualifying race was a very tricky affair as rain at the start of the race made the track very muddy and slippery, and pretty much one-line. Still, slotting into tenth from the start, Paulin made a couple of spots to take the flag eighth which is more than sufficient for tomorrow’s two races, for which the weather is forecast to be much brighter and drier.

Evgeny Bobryshev

“The track was really tricky today as it was pretty much one line all round. If you wanted to change from left to right on the track, there were no places to do because there was just mud there, so we were a bit like a train out there. I had a good start but to be honest I struggled a little and my speed wasn’t so good – I wasn’t so comfortable in these conditions so I need for tomorrow to get a better feeling and a better flow. Still, fourth place is good enough for the gate pick for tomorrow, but if I can find something overnight we’ll have more to give in the races.”

Gautier Paulin “When I had my crash the first thing was to be back physically. It was not easy and in the first days I had quite some pain, but I have good #people around me who helped me to get back as soon as possible so I want to thank everyone for that. I tried my best to be behind the gate again as soon as possible, and I’m happy to be #racing here again this weekend. Physically I’m feeling ok but still tight, and we’re working with the physio every day. I had quite a bit of traffic today but still the laptimes were ok. In the quali race I didn’t get a good start and then a small crash, but the race is tomorrow. If the rain stops I think there could be some good lines and the #racing will be good.”  Roger Harvey

HRC General Manager - MXGP“The conditions today were tough, but to be honest we expected a mud race coming into this weekend and the rain today wasn’t as bad as initially forecast. The track was pretty much one-line, but Bobby rode a good race to hold onto fourth, and it was good to see Gautier back behind the gate again. Eighth today is a solid starting point for him for tomorrow’s two races. Tim made the best of the conditions today by getting out front and controlling the race. The weather is expected to be different tomorrow so the races could be very different anyway to today.”
