18 wins: Mercedes-AMG DTM Team most successful outfit at Nuremberg's Norisring
Comments ahead of the DTM races at Norisring
Robert Wickens (27, Canada):
"For the first time in my DTM career, I'll be lining up at the Norisring as championship leader in a race. That feels great and I'm really looking forward to it. I've always been strong in Nuremberg in recent years. I've finished on the podium in every race since 2013. I obviously don't want to see an end to this series of successes and aim to extend my lead even further."
Paul Di Resta (30, Scotland):
"The Norisring can't come quick enough for me after a tough weekend at the Lausitzring. I now hope to have a successful weekend in Nuremberg and rejoin the race for the title. The team have prepared well for the track as they do every year, and my focus is on finishing as far forward as possible."
Lucas Auer (21, Austria):
"The track is a personal highlight for me on the DTM calendar. Nuremberg will certainly attract fans in their droves once again. My team and I are highly motivated after my win at the Lausitzring. I can't wait to see how things go at the Norisring. The street circuit has a unique character and is unlike any other. Our preparations for it are completely different as a result. On a street circuit, we have to rely more on data gained from experience than at other tracks. Its special characteristics also require a good balance between brakes, traction and top speed. However, I feel very much at home there and am sure that Mercedes will again be competitive at the Norisring."
Christian Vietoris (27, Germany):
"The Norisring is a race which I always look forward to. I've always been extremely successful at this track in recent years, so I feel very confident and really good about the weekend as we head there. After my team's decent showing at the Lausitzring weekend, we're highly motivated ahead of the race, from head to toe. I think that we'll have a very successful race weekend in Nuremberg."
Gary Paffett (35, England):
"I've got mixed feelings about the way my season has gone so far, but I secured a decent result in the last race at the Lausitzring on Sunday. And so, I feel optimistic as I head to the Norisring where I would like to achieve my first podium of the year at the very least. Mercedes are always good on Nuremberg's street circuit, but it's going to be tough. We've seen six different winners in the six races this season, which shows how extremely competitive the DTM is this year."
Maximilian Götz (30, Germany):
"The Norisring is one of the absolute highlights of the season for all the drivers. It's even more exciting for me, because it's so close to home. As always, many of my friends will be sitting in the stands to cheer me on. Mercedes are traditionally very strong on this track. My goal is, therefore, to finish in the Top Ten in both races. I'm going to arrive beating my chest and try to bring the speed with me that I've had all year. So far, unfortunately, I've been missing that little bit of luck, but it's now high time for me to finally secure some points."
Daniel Juncadella (25, Spain):
"Nuremberg is a cool city that I love to visit. There are always lots of fans in the stands and the atmosphere each year is fantastic. I've worked out a lot since the Lausitzring and have even trained at 2,500 metres. I've also visited the guys in Affalterbach, where we made more progress. If we can have a clean weekend, then we should be able to secure a top result. My goal is to fight for a podium. I've not yet managed to achieve one at the first three race weekends this season, but I think I'm in with a good chance at the Norisring."
Esteban Ocon (19, France):
"I've already raced in Formula 3 at the Norisring, so I know the track, which has definitely got to be an advantage compared to the Lausitzring. Mercedes have always been strong in Nuremberg and have won lots of races there. Consequently, I'm very excited about the weekend. There's always such a special atmosphere at the Norisring. And so many people! For me it's definitely the best DTM race, comparable in some respects to Monaco in Formula 1."
Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM:
"We lead the championship once again as we travel to the Norisring just as we did in the run-up to Spielberg and the Lausitzring. While that makes us feel really good, if you look closely at the scores in the standings and take into account that Robert has now taken the lead from Paul, then you begin to quickly realise how close everything is. For us, the Norisring is like our front room. Nowhere else have we been as successful in the DTM, so we have set ourselves extremely ambitious goals for the coming weekend. However, we are also aware that anything can happen in the DTM. The races will certainly not be a foregone conclusion."
