Pirelli shines in the night of the Grand Prix of Qatar in Losail, the first rounf of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship
Antonio Cairoli wins both races and leads the standings in MXGP class, double victory for Pauls Jonass in MX2
Losail (Qatar), 26 February, 2017 – The Grand Prix of Qatar has officially started the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship. The track, built inside the Losail’s circuit is characterized by a medium soil, the ideal terrain for SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft, the tyres that, for front and rear, have been used by all Pirelli equipped riders. 14 riders out of 21 in MXGP and 14 out of 30 in MX2 have lined up with the Italian tyres brand.
Antonio Cairoli has dominated in the MXGP class. The eight-times World Champion won with a good lead in the first race, while in the second, after having chased for about thirty minutes Tim Gajser, he managed to overcome him in the final laps scoring an awesome double victory. Tim Gajser, despite a nasty flu, managed to finish the Grand Prix just behind Cairoli. Evgeny Bobryshev, fourth, and Romain Febvre, fifth, have crowned the excellent day for Pirelli in the premier class.
Great race for Pauls Jonass that dominated the MX2 Grand Prix with two clear victories despite the slight injury he suffered two weeks ago in La Capelle-Marival. Third place belongs to private rider Julien Lieber that has finished the race in front of the Danish rookie Thomas Kjer Olsen, fourth overall.
Next weekend riders will be involved in the Grand Prix of Indonesia that will be hosted in the Pangkal Pinang circuit.
