Franco Caimi claims impressive runner-up spot at Merzouga rally's stage three

Continuing to impress aboard the WR450F Rally machine, Yamalube #yamaha Official Rally Team rookie Franco Caimi has posted the second fastest time during the Afriquia #merzouga Rally's stage three. Wrapping up an extremely challenging stage in third, his teammate #xavierdesoultrait retains a four-minute lead in the rally's provisional overall standings.

Stage three of the #merzougarally 2017 saw the #yamaha riders race a long special stage of 175 km. Bouncing back after a difficult day in the saddle, Argentina's Franco Caimi made some crucial passes and quickly found himself #racing together with the leading group.

Riding smart and avoiding mistakes he managed to post the second fastest time, just 37 seconds behind winner Gerard Farrés. Bettering his position in the provisional overall standings by two spots, Franco finds himself in third overall with three stages to go.

Opening the tracks for the opening part of stage three, #xavierdesoultrait remained fast from start to finish to eventually post the third best time for the day. Continuing his impressive run at this year's event, the Frenchman retains the lead in the provisional overall standings with a gap of more than four minutes.

Successfully battling his way through this tough stage three, #yamaha Italy supported #alessandrobotturi crossed the finish line with the eighth best time. Currently placed fourth in the event's provisional overall standings, Alessandro is the third #yamaha mounted rider inside the top four.

Tomorrow's stage four of the Afriquia #merzougarally will be the first part of the event's two-day-long marathon stage.
