The Peugeot 3008DKR Maxi n°308 of Despres/Castera fights on!

STAGE 5 | SAN JUAN DE MARCONA-AREQUIPA Following damage sustained on stage 4, the  n°308 PEUGEOT #3008dkr Maxi can now continue the 2018 Dakar thanks to an all-night effort to get it back on the road, which involved the entire team.

After hitting a large rock at kilometre 180 on stage 4 yesterday (Tuesday 9 January) at around 11am, the n°308 PEUGEOT #3008dkr Maxi was stopped in its tracks, with damage to the rear. This damage meant that #cyrildespres / David Castera were unable to continue under their own steam. They had to wait for more than four hours before the competing PEUGEOT assistance truck was able to reach them. After working on the car for four hours, it was able to finally drive to the bivouac at San Juan de Marcona (Peru) where it arrived at about 1am on Wednesday.

Having prepared everything they needed, the Team PEUGEOT Total mechanics then launched themselves flat-out onto the PEUGEOT #3008dkr Maxi to prepare it for the start of day 5 (the longest of the entire rally) on Wednesday 10 January. It was a remarkable feat that they accomplished in less than three hours, for a start scheduled at 4am this morning !   Thanks to a superb team effort that involved all of the mechanics, the mission was accomplished successfully. So #cyrildespres / David Castera will be able to continue this Dakar that they started so successfully, with a win on stage 2. Now running with several hours of penalties, their chances of victory are gone, but they can aim to win more stages and provide assistance to their team mates if needed.
