Nasser Al-Attiyah and Klara Andersson - from the desert to the snow, ready for the Extreme E

  • From their home countries of Qatar and Sweden, the #abtcupraxe drivers are preparing for another season of the Electric Odyssey
  • The driving duo train on different terrains with the same impulse: to climb up the top of the #ExtremeE podium after their strong performance in last year’s final races
  • The team is finalising its preparations for the Desert X Prix in Saudi Arabia on 11-12 March, which will kick off the 2023 edition of Extreme

In the chilly surroundings of Pite Havsbad, Sweden, #klaraandersson is pushing the Tavascan XE to its limits on the ice and snow of her home country. Meanwhile, #nasseralattiyah is surfing the dunes 4,500 kilometres away in the Qatar desert after winning his fifth Dakar Rally. Following their strong performance in the final two races of last year’s edition, with a podium finish in Chile and a victory in the final round in Uruguay, right now the two #abtcupraxe team drivers are preparing for the most extreme electric challenge in a new #ExtremeE season. Theirs is a story of contrasts that add up, driven by the same unstoppable impulse.

A well-rounded team. Sand and snow; hot and cold; experience and young talent. Nasser and Klara are a duo of extremes that make a perfect match: “I’m very happy to be teaming up with Nasser again, he’s a motorsport legend and it was clear in Chile and Uruguay that we’re a good tandem” says Klara. The Swedish driver officially joins #abtcupraxe after her outstanding performance last season in the final two races. “We come from very different backgrounds, we’re used to different terrains and we each have our strengths that complement each other” she says. Nasser adds “We make a good team; we have the same passion for motorsport.”

Extreme preparation. “To go up against the Electric Odyssey, we have to train body and mind” explains Nasser. That’s why they test their driving skills on surfaces as diverse as ice and sand dunes. “Snow is an ideal terrain to train on because it’s very slippery, which forces you to adapt your driving technique, and that’s the perfect tool to improve as a driver” says Klara. “The desert is my favourite place to practice; for a professional driver, sand isn’t that different to snow as you might think, as it also allows you to surf” adds Nasser. For Klara, the Tavascan XE, which will debut this year with new livery, “can handle almost anything - it’s so big and powerful that it’s a pleasure to drive” she says. “Its acceleration is incredible on all kinds of terrain” she adds.

The first challenge of the season: the Desert X Prix. “The first race in any competition is always difficult, but we’re going all out at full speed” says Nasser. #cupra is strengthening its commitment to electric motorsport at this new edition of #ExtremeE. The upcoming event in Neom, Saudi Arabia, on March 11th and 12th, guarantees extreme emotion. “We’ve trained hard to give 100% this season, from start to finish” adds Klara. “We’re a strong team and we’re going to fight for the title” she concludes.
