Bilstein MDS aims to keep monster Nissan GT-R in victory lane
Bilstein is aiming for outright victory on Sunday August 9, when South Africa’s wildest street cars gather at the famed ODI Raceway outside Pretoria for an invitational 0 – 1000 metre drag race. The goal? To crown the fastest street-legal car on the sub-continent…
The current owner of those bragging rights is Stelios Sissou, whose 1 200kW-plus #nissangtr smashed the record a year ago with a speed of 337 km/h at the end of the standing kilometre. It is fitted with an Alpha 16 powertrain (a reference to the horsepower figure) which was built, installed and tuned by NXGen. Stelios has pulled out the stops to retain the title in 2015 and the monster GT-R now fitted with Bilstein’s MDS Club Sport suspension – a set-up designed to give him every ounce of traction off the line.
This is already an incredibly quick car, blitzing the quarter-mile in about eight seconds and reaching 100km/h in under three, but it’ll be up against talented and well-equipped rivals from as far afield as Cape Town, Durban and Botswana. Getting the torque to the tarmac is going to be critical, and the race may well be won or lost in the first 60 feet…
Bilstein’s Modular Damping System (MDS) is fully adjustable for ride height and also has separate bump (compression) and rebound (extension) adjustment so that the all-wheel-drive chassis can be optimised not only for grip but also for stability well beyond the 300 km/h mark. In addition, the car is fitted with adjustable control arms for fine-tuning of suspension geometry.
“It’s a big day, and as the reigning champions, all the pressure is on us,” grins Stelios. “But we’ve done our homework, and with the change to #bilstein MDS and all the input from the #bilstein team, I’m confident that we can watch the sun set on Sunday with the trophy still in the cabinet!”
