European YZ125 Cup: Yamaha UK’s hunt starts here!

Do you think you have what it takes to become the new Romain Febvre? Here is your chance to prove it! As has already been announced, #yamaha is supporting young motocross talent by offering the opportunity of a lifetime with the new YZ125 Cup. Initiated by #yamaha and run in Europe on a national level, the winner will be awarded with a contract for Yamaha’s 2017 Official EMX125 Team and #yamaha UK is pleased to announce that it has teamed up with the Thor British Youth Nationals championship, making it the only championship which is eligible to score points towards the #yz125cup.

The best scoring riders from each of the 13 national championship who signed up for the European #yz125cup, will be allowed to participate in a Superfinale at the Veltins Arena, Germany on October 8th 2016, where the best YZ125 riders will compete for the victory in front of a crowd of 50,000 motocross fans.

In total there will be forty-two #yz125cup candidates competing for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from across Europe. In the UK, the three (3) best #yamaha YZ125 riders from the British Youth Nationals Yamaha 125cc Championship, which kicks off on the weekend of April 2/3 2016, will be given the opportunity to progress to the YZ125 championship final alongside those from the other countries.

The six top riders of the Superfinale, joined by two wildcards, will win a multiple day Master Class with MXGP rider and 2008 MX1 World Champion David Philippaerts.

During the Master Class the mentors will decide which of these riders will become an official #yamaha rider for the EMX125 2017 season and gets to follow in the footsteps of 2015 125cc Junior World Champion, Maxime Renaux.

Speaking on behalf of #yamaha UK, Off-Road Marketing Coordinator Karl Radley said: ‘We are really pleased to have this new platform for the development of youth racers, as it’s really important to provide opportunities to emerging UK talent and give them the chance to prove themselves against Europe’s best riders, which they may not otherwise have had – we’ll certainly be hoping that the eventual winner is from the UK! It also shows that #yamaha is still committed to 2-stroke technology and the benefits they can have on the development of a riders skills in competition.

Gareth Hockey of RHL Activities, promoter of the Thor British Youth Nationals said: ‘This is brilliant news to see one of the iconic Japanese manufacturers back supporting youth two stroke #racing. The RHL team are passionate about youth #racing and the importance of two strokes within the ACU Thor British Youth National championship
