The British rider won the day after a closely fought competition with rival Wade Young of South Africa that spanned the entire weekend. Young came out on top in Saturday’s extreme test but Jonny Walker took the prize in the prologue in the evening. Veteran Husqvarna rider Graham Jarvis was third in the main on Sunday, Walker’s #ktm factory teammate Alfredo Gomez of Spain was fourth and Mario Roman completed the top five of the pro rider class. Austrian #ktm rider Lars Enöckl was seventh in the pro class and Billy Bolt at tenth gave #ktm riders four of the top ten.

Walker said after the Saturday night prologue that he was ‘a happy man’, adding: “I got the win in the #alstrm SuperFinal Prologue. It was a crazy night race. The track was so slippery but I managed to get a decent start and get into the lead on lap one”. But with Young taking the extreme test it set the stage for a knockout battle between the two in Sunday’s main.

He added that it had been a difficult but good race. “Getting a winning result is a great way to start the extreme season. Wade Young was running a really fast pace for the first two laps. He’d be ahead for a while then I'd be ahead for a while. It was really close and really high paced. Things started getting tougher on the third lap, and that’s where I managed to open up a small lead. I kept pushing and stayed ahead to the finish. The last lap was really physical, some parts of the track were so, so slippery. It made pushing hard really difficult.”

Some of the elite group of extreme #enduro riders, including Walker and Gomez have already battled it out on the indoor circuit at the second round of the FIM #superenduro World Championship in Riesa, Germany at the beginning of January, but #alstrm heralded the start of the outdoor season. The race was also popular with hobby riders with a total of around 400 tackling this offroad #event, an indication of the growing popularity of the discipline.
