Both Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin were placed in the first heat of the 450 Class, with current points leader Dungey at the helm as the day’s fastest qualifier. It was Musquin who shot off the gate to capture the holeshot in heat one, while Dungey trailed inside the top five. Dungey quickly made his way into second behind Musquin and the teammates put on an exciting battle for the lead. Dungey ultimately made the pass on Musquin to capture the heat race win, followed by Cole Seely in second and Musquin in third.

Main Event
In the 450 Class Main #event, the Red Bull #ktm factory riders raced side-by-side to the first corner, with Dungey edging out his teammate Musquin for the holeshot. But while running in second, Musquin had a bobble that dropped him back to sixth place position on the opening lap. From there, Dungey maintained a steady lead over the competition to ultimately secure his fourth victory of the season.

“It’s nice to be back on top again this weekend,” Dungey stated. “I’m really happy with the way things went today. We made some set-up changes between practice, heat races and the main, which we feel were in the right direction. Definitely good momentum going into Dallas next weekend.”

Musquin consistently showed good speed amidst an experienced field of 450 Class riders, where he ultimately finished seventh place in his sixth career 450 Class start.

Sixth for Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM’s Mitchell Oldenburg
Mitchell Oldenburg finished sixth in the 250 Class as the tour returned to San Diego’s Petco Park for the second time in 2016. The sixth round saw Oldenburg push his way from outside the top 10 to narrowly miss another top 5 finish.

The 21-year-old continued to be the sole representation of the TLD team in San Diego and kept up his solid performance. He qualified at fifth and finished fourth in his heat race, showcasing his raw speed before a packed house.

Oldenburg managed to overcome a tough right-handed start in the main #event and came around the first lap in 11th. He then managed to pick off riders each lap, eventually making it up to sixth when the checkered flag flew.

“The track was one of the tougher ones we’ve seen this year and I really wanted to ride a clean race,” said Oldenburg.“I wanted to do better because I felt like I have the speed but after getting a mediocre start, those front guys were gone. We’ll see if we can go into the break with a good result next weekend.”

Oldenburg remained in seventh in the point’s standings after completing six rounds.
