Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Maiden #dtm victory: #lucasauer (BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) wins second race at Lausitzring – Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finishes third to take the championship lead

  • Second #dtm pole and maiden #dtm victory for Austrian #lucasauer (BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM)
  • Second podium this weekend for Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM)
  • Wickens leads the #dtm drivers' standings with 58 points after six races
  • Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team Mücke also in the points with both cars in second race at home fixture
  • Lucas Auer: “It's mega to have won my first #dtm race. I'm especially pleased for Peter Mücke. He lives and breathes motor #racing and thoroughly deserves this win.”

Successful conclusion to the Lausitzring Motorsport Festival for Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team: #lucasauer (BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) and Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finished on the podium in the second race in front of 67,500 spectators (over the whole weekend).

This was Auer's first #dtm victory in his 23 #dtm races. He is the first Austrian ever to win a #dtm race. He had earlier taken his second pole position of his #dtm career in the home race for his Mercedes AMG #dtm Team Mücke.

Canadian Robert Wickens took his second podium of the weekend after placing third on Saturday and with 58 points now leads the #dtm drivers's standings. His Mercedes-AMG #dtm team-mate Gary Paffett (EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finished the race in fifth position.

Christian Vietoris rounded off a good team result for the Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team by placing seventh, which means that the Pink Panthers scored points in both races at the home race of their team in their BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTMs.

DTM rookie Esteban Ocon (FREE MEN'S WORLD Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finished the sixth race of the season in 15th place. Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM), Daniel Juncadella (UBFS invest Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) and Maximilian Götz (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) were forced to retire; the Spaniard had problems with his tyres, while Götz was hit by a steering issue.

The next race weekend: The next highlight of the season will follow the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring when the #dtm lines up at the Norisring in Nuremberg, 24th-26th June. The street circuit next to the Dutzendteich is traditionally one of the high points of the #dtm year.

Comments after the race

Lucas Auer (21, Austria):

  • P1
  • Car number: 22
  • Team: BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team Mücke)
  • Car: BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“I've never had to work so hard for a win as I've had to today. It was really tough. The first few laps were really critical. My crew did great on the pitstop and my pace was also very good. It's mega to have won my first #dtm race. The #dtm is a fantastic series, and it makes me really proud to take my maiden win in it, particularly as I'm the first driver from my country to pull it off. We're going to celebrate today. I'm especially pleased for Peter Mücke. He lives and breathes motor #racing and thoroughly deserves this win.”

Robert Wickens (27, Canada):

  • P3
  • Car number: 6
  • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy / UBFS invest Mercedes-AMG

(Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA)

  • Car: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“Congratulations to Lucas. He was simply unstoppable this weekend and really deserved to win. I would also have liked to win obviously, but it was his day today, and I'm very happy for him. We made an early pit stop to change tyres. I had to stay out for a long time after that on the same set. Ekström was really fast towards the end. I didn't have any grip after the Slow Zone and had to make sure that I didn't drop any points.”

Gary Paffett (35, England):

  • P5
  • Car number: 2
  • Team: EURONICS / FREE MEN'S WORLD Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team ART)
  • Car: EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“Congratulations to Lucas. He's had a superb weekend. My goal was to actually finish on the podium from fifth place on the grid, but I damaged my car a bit while overtaking Timo Scheider. I lost some grip on the front as a result. In the end, I couldn't hold off Jamie Green and Mattias Ekström behind me. They were simply quicker than me at the time. Fifth place brings some good points with it, but it's slightly disappointing, because I had set my heart on finishing third.”

Christian Vietoris (27, Germany):

  • P7
  • Car number: 8
  • Team: BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team Mücke)
  • Car: BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“Starting from seventh position after the grid penalty made it a tricky race. Unfortunately, I again lost power steering during the race, which cost me a lot of time in the fast corners. That was a tough weekend for me. We had a good car and should actually have made more of it.”

Esteban Ocon (19, France):

  • P15
  • Car number: 34
  • Team: EURONICS / FREE MEN'S WORLD Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team ART)
  • Car: FREE MEN'S WORLD Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“That was a great result for the team today. Congratulations to Lucas on his first #dtm win and also to Robert, who now has the overall lead. As for myself, I must keep pushing and mustn't be too disappointed after this weekend. I hope that I can hit back again in the next race.”

Paul Di Resta (30, Scotland):

  • Retired (classified P21)
  • Car number: 3
  • Team: Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA)
  • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“My pace was poor, both in qualifying and in the race. My start was excellent, which allowed me to gain a few places, but I lost them again after the pit stop. In the end, I had to retire because of a problem with the car. All in all, it hasn't been my weekend. There's still a lot to do before the next race at the Norisring. Congratulations to Lucas on his first #dtm win. He was the best driver this weekend, and he really earned his victory.”

Daniel Juncadella (25, Spain):

  • Retired
  • Car number: 12
  • Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy / UBFS invest Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA)
  • Car: UBFS invest Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“Unfortunately, it was another bad day for me. We've now got to carefully analyse the data. I drove well in qualifying but only managed 18th on the grid. I still can't fully understand quite what happened. I've had a few issues so far all season with qualifying. The races have gone a little better, but it just didn't work out for me today. Nevertheless, I'm happy for my former team, Mücke. I raced for them for three years and can tell you that they definitely deserve this victory.”

Maximilian Götz (30, Germany):

  • Retired
  • Car number: 84
  • Team: Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG #dtm Team HWA)
  • Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM

“That was very disappointing. I was in a promising position, but I realised after braking in the second turn that there was something broken at the front of the car on the off-side. It was a real shame. I was doing so well, putting pressure on the guy in front. A great deal more should have been possible.”

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG #dtm:

“Lucas thoroughly deserved this win. He was in a class of his own from start to finish. Robert also put up a strong showing and is now a worthy championship leader. Overall, we are obviously very pleased with the weekend. The team are now being rewarded for their hard work.”
