Bastianini takes bronze medal in Austria. Di Giannantonio eighth

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Gresini #racing Team #moto3 racer #eneabastianini was one of the great protagonists of today’s Austrian Grand Prix at the #redbullring: the 18-year-old rider from Rimini in fact battled for the win for all the race, then crossing the finish line in third place.

A “bronze medal” which a little bitter taste for Enea and the team, considering that at the beginning of the final lap Bastianini appeared to have the chance to cross the finish line in front of everyone. A strong maneuver from Brad Binder at Turn 4 has however forced Bastianini to go wide, losing ground from the other four riders of the leading group. Enea in the final corners was still good to recover well, snatching the third place behind winner Joan Mir and Brad Binder, second.

The other Gresini #racing Team #moto3, #fabiodigiannantonio, completed the positive day of the team with a good eighth place, claimed despite some physical problems in his left arm, which affected the 17-year-old rookie from Rome under braking. “Diggia” still put in a determined performance, remaining attached to the leading group for more than half race, then in the final stages he was involved in a great battle with compatriots Bagnaia and Bulega, closing eighth and bringing home 8 important points for the Championship.

ENEA BASTIANINI (3rd)
“Today I was hoping for a victory, because we were very fast: I had a good feeling and I could do what I wanted with my bike. But I knew that Binder would be very strong on the brakes in the final laps: in fact it was definitely not easy to fight with him. On the last lap I tried to brake very late at Turn 4, but he still managed to pass me on the inside, forcing me to go wide. Therefore, the other riders of the group were able to be faster than me on the exit and I lost valuable ground for the final sprint. Binder anyway apologized for his maneuver and I accept it: of course I’m disappointed because I know that today we could have won, but these are the races. For the next races we have to work on the braking area because I want to be more competitive in order to be in the game in the last lap. It should be said that we are working very well, the bike has improved so much since the beginning of year and now I feel very at ease. I’m able to be fast all tracks right from the start of the weekend”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (8th)
“I’m pretty happy with this result, which still allows us to bring home important points for the Championship, although actually today we started the race hoping for something more. During the race, however, on the one hand the physical problems in my left arm - which didn’t allow me to manage well the clutch and thus often led me to mistakes under braking - and on the other the fight with the other riders at one point made me lose contact with the leading group. On the last lap I tried to recover positions, but the battle was very tight and there were other contacts with some riders, so I crossed the finish line in eighth place. That said, I’m very happy with how the team has been working during the weekend: in the race I had a very good bike. Overall I’m pleased with the weekend, now we look forward to Brno!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“This third place leaves a little bitter taste in the mouth, because today Bastianini fought for victory throughout the whole race. On the final lap Binder’s maneuver actually took away our chance to win, even if Enea did very well to recover and to grab a podium that was unexpected at that point. Congratulations to Enea who rode very well and to the team that gave him an excellent bike. I’m also happy for the result obtained by Di Giannantonio, who made a great race despite some physical problems in his arm. Fabio crossed the finish line close to the leading group, proving once again his growth. He’s also in the game and he can definitely have a go for the Rookie of the Year title”.
