Final tests of 2016: Between Tuesday and Friday of last week, the Mercedes-AMG DTM Team participated in the final test sessions of the year at Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. Maximilian Günther and Maro Engel were there for the Young Driver Test, while Edoardo Mortara was making his debut at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM. Also involved were #garypaffett and Robert Wickens who put in more than 600 laps between them on the four test days. “We’v e driven a lot of kilometres, and it all went well,” said Wickens. Paffett concurred: “The most important thing for me is to understand the new tyres. It’s still very early in the development phase, but the initial indications are good. I’ve got used to the car and the tyres and now have a better impression of what it will be like in the coming season. But there is still a lot of work ahead to make sure we are match fit for the title next year.”

Three questions for Gary Paffett

Gary, last weekend’s #event – Motorsport meets Sindelfingen – was a first. How did you like it? And what was your personal highlight?

Gary Paffett: It was a fantastic #event, and it was great fun putting on such a great show for all the hard-working colleagues at the plant and their families. It was also nice to meet up with all the drivers there and celebrate as one big family. My personal highlight was, of course, driving the DTM car in front of such a big crowd and allowing them to experience the sound close up.

How will you be spending the Christmas holidays? Will you try to get away from all the hustle and bustle, or do you enjoy it?

Gary Paffett: I’ll be spending a lot of time at home, as I’m on the road for most of the season. That makes it all the nicer for me to have more time with my family over Christmas and after all the hard work to relax and enjoy the festive period. Even if I then have to spend more time in the gym in January to work it off...

What Christmas wish would you like to send to our fans?

Gary Paffett: First of all, I would like to thank all our fans for the huge support they’ve given us this season. It’s been absolutely fantastic. We work very hard in our races to keep you entertained. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and hope that you come back well refreshed, because next year we’ll be needing all your support and passion as we embark on a new season. I look forward to seeing you all again next year.

The 2016 AMG Customer Sports Championship

At the Mercedes-AMG season awards ceremony on 3rd December in Affalterbach, Tobias Moers (Managing Director), Jochen Bitzer (Head of Customer Sports) and Bernd Schneider (AMG Brand Ambassador) announced the winners of the 2016 AMG Customer Sports Championship. Kenneth Heyer (GER) amassed a record 650.75 points to finish top of the PRO DRIVER rankings ahead of Christiaan Frankenhout (NED, 426.50 points) and Morgan Moullin Traffort (FRA, 335.25 points) in second and third place respectively. The DRIVER rankings were won by Frenchman Jean-Luc Beaubelique (487.05 points) ahead of Chantal and Michael Kroll (both SUI) who tied for second place on 426.50 points. New TEAM champions are AKKA ASP (FRA, 1027.00 points). In positions two to five were HTP Motorsport (GER, 528.30 points), BLACK FALCON (GER, 456.15 points), Hofor #racing (SUI, 441.50 points) and Kornely Motorsport (GER, 257.75 points).

The winners in the categories PRO DRIVER and DRIVER were each handed the keys to a brand new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45. The runners-up received an IWC Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic watch, while those in third place were given a limited-edition AMG Rotwild Bike. The top five teams were credited with sums of between €50,000 and €10,000 to be spent in the ordering system of the AMG Customer Sports Portal. In addition, the ten best drivers and teams received an exclusive AMG Customer Sports Championship trophy.

Mercedes-AMG GT3 drivers from a variety of race series around the world compete against each other in the AMG Customer Sports Championship. This means that contestants from the Nürburgring 24-hour race, the Creventic 24H Series, the Blancpain GT Series and the Pirelli World Challenge are up against their counterparts from the Australian GT, the Super GT Series and the ADAC GT Masters. But no matter which of these series is their main focus, the Customer Sports drivers and teams are rewarded for their achievements and successes with additional incentives from Mercedes-AMG. The only precondition is that the races are contested in an SLS AMG GT3 or the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. Consequently, all teams and drivers in the AMG Customer Sports Programme are automatically entered. However, AMG Performance teams are excluded from the TEAM ranking. Nor can drivers for factory-assisted teams or drivers contracted to Mercedes-AMG or Daimler AG be credited with points towards the driver’s ranking.
