Akrapovič and Honda Join Forces for Assault on World Superbike

Akrapovič is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Honda World Superbike team that will see the Slovenian premium performance exhaust specialist become an official sponsor and technical partner for the Japanese marque’s 2017 team.
Akrapovič has been busy during the off-season designing and developing the new bespoke high-performance exhaust systems that will adorn the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 #racing bikes of Nicky Hayden and Stefan Bradl throughout the 2017 season. Working in unison with Honda’s skilled engineers, Akrapovič has drawn on its own wealth of over 20 years’ of experience in top-level #racing, which has racked up 108 world championship titles for the Slovenian exhaust systems specialist, to produce a new system for the #racing bike. Utilising all the skills, innovations, and premium materials at its disposal, Akrapovič has created an exhaust system that is ready for pre-season testing, which will begin at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain on Tuesday, 24th January, where Hayden and Bradl will get the first taste of their new Akrapovič-equipped Honda CBR1000RR Fireblades during a two-day test.
This new #partnership rekindles a highly successful relationship that produced two World Superbike titles when the WorldSBK Honda team won the championship in 2000 and 2002, with Colin Edwards #racing to success. The 2000 title was the first world championship title for Akrapovič, and this latest collaboration makes the return of the #partnership very special, and one that all involved hope will be as successful as it was the first time around.
The all-new exhaust system is tailor-made for the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 and uses special lightweight titanium alloys precisely configured to improve the performance of the bike and give it a competitive edge. Akrapovič has used its expertise to provide exhaust system solutions for Honda that will be the start of an ongoing and prolific technical #partnership that will see the Japanese company benefit from the development and production abilities at Akrapovič’s in-house, state-of-the-art facilities in Slovenia.
Akrapovič will first take to the track with Hayden and Bradl’s Hondas in a test livery at Jerez later this month, followed by another official test in February. The season gets underway at Phillip Island in Australia in late February, when Akrapovič and Honda will begin their World Superbike attack at the first two races of the season, ahead of 24 other events from 12 different circuits around the globe.
Uroš Rosa, Akrapovič CEO:
“This is another momentous moment in the history of Akrapovič and a very significant one as we enter a new period following the celebrations of our 25th anniversary in 2016. To be re-united with Honda in World Superbike is a great honour for Akrapovič and this #partnership holds very special meaning for all involved because it was with Honda that we secured our first world championship in 2000, and this set us on our way and taught us a lot about winning titles. To increase our involvement with Honda beyond the already successful #partnership in EWC and BSB is a great testimony to the trust placed in us to deliver the latest technological advances to Honda in its #racing activities.
“We are really looking forward to working with Honda again and using our experience from over 25 years of #racing to create an exhaust for the Fireblade that will use all the newest technology, latest innovations, and specially produced materials to give Honda the most competitive high-performance exhaust available. The technical support we will provide at our state-of-the-art facilities in Slovenia will be at Honda’s disposal and we will be working closely with their engineers to develop the system as the season progresses. Everyone in the #racing department is relishing the challenge ahead of them, and by using the experience and skills we have in-house we know we can give Honda the kind of service it needs and expects.”
Robert Watherston – Honda Motor Europe, Head of Motorsport:
“It is with great pleasure that Honda Motor Europe extends its technical alliance with Akrapovič, who have been a key technical partner of our Endurance, Road #racing and British Superbikes programme for many years. With the release of the new CBR1000RR Fireblade in 2017, it is the perfect time to extend this #partnership to include the WorldSBK project which is the ultimate expression of production-based #racing. Our previous collaboration in the WorldSBK championship proved to be very successful, and brought Akrapovič its first World Championship in 2000. With this renewed #partnership, both parties are again committed to working together to achieve the same goal of winning the world title. In terms of delivering the very highest levels of performance, innovation and quality for our Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 race machines, there is no better choice than Akrapovič.
