Verstappen upbeat despite DNF at Bahrain GP as Ricciardo finishes in fifth.

Max Verstappen was quick to point out that the race pace of his Red Bull was an improvement on the opening two races after he retired early at the Bahrain GP.

The Dutchman appeared angry after his brakes failed, however he composed himself to reflect on the positives that Red Bull Racing could take away from the track along with Daniel Ricciardo’s fifth-place finish.

Sebastian Vettel eased to victory in his Ferrari with the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas behind.

Verstappen now stands fifth in the 2017 drivers’ standings with Ricciardo three points behind and Red Bull Racing third in the constructors’ race on 47 points.

Sadly for Scuderia Toro Rosso, Carlos Sainz was also forced to finish his race early after an incident with Lance Stroll which saw him handed a three-place grid penalty for the Russian GP after race stewards claimed he was ‘predominantly to blame’ for the clash.

Elsewhere Russian Daniil Kvyat finished outside the points after he struggled to get to grips with his tyres in the opening laps.
