Suzuki World MXGP aim to get back on-track at ‘home’ GP

After the first European round of the 2017 Motocross Championships last weekend in Italy, the whole #suzuki World #mxgp team packed-up and headed north for the next round located in #valkenswaard, Netherlands, less than 25 kilometres from the team’s HQ in Lommel, Belgium.

To a man, each rider is hoping to bounce back from their results at the #mxgp of Trentino and show what they are really capable of at the deep sand facility where passing should be a lot easier to come by than it was in Italy.

“Of course I’m looking forward to it”, said Jeremy Seewer, who’s #suzuki RM-Z250 has propelled him to be the red plate holder at the previous two rounds. “I need to forget about last weekend and do my best at #valkenswaard. I have good memories from last year finishing on the podium which is pretty good for me, having previously struggling there. I’m riding a lot in the sand now and I feel a lot better on the surface so we will try and make it happen on Sunday.”

Team mate #hunterlawrence also has good memories from last year when he finished with 2-5 #moto scores, albeit in the EMX250 class. Still, he feels like after a good winter of preparation, he is ready to show those skills in the tougher MX2 class: “It’s close to home but I’ve only ever ridden it once at the GP last year. I’m looking forward to it though, there’s a cool spirit and vibe at the track with a lot of #people coming to watch so it should be good. I’m hoping for a good weekend where I can make my Saturday better; which should then make my Sunday easier and I can then get the results I know I can achieve.”

The third member of the MX2 team is Bas Vaessen and while he won’t be #racing this weekend, he has been back on the bike the last couple of days as he takes the next step in his recovery from the broken collarbone sustained at the #mxgp of Argentina. His next GP is still scheduled to be in Latvia on May 7th but he hopes to be #racing before that at the German ADAC Championship in Jauer as a warm up.

In the #mxgp class Kevin Strijbos also enjoys the short trip across the border: “There are a lot of fans there and it’s a nice track, it’s a difficult track and it can get quite rough so hopefully the weather will be good there. I’m going to be working on my starts, trying to find some settings that will get me up front from the beginning and I’m confident we can get it right. The team works hard with me to get the most out of this great new #rmz450ws and they all do their best so I know we will get there sooner rather than later. The sand is good for me, hopefully I can be in the top five or six and get a decent result and that will help the team be positive for future rounds. That’s what we work for and that’s what we hope to get.”

Arminas Jasikonis has been slowly improving on his #rmz450ws scoring 15, 17 and 19 points in his last three rounds and he’ll be wanting to continue that run on a surface that better suits his style. “I’m really positive for sand. I know that I’m stronger in the sand and I can do better, so I’m going to work hard all this week to improve my condition for this race. I’m actually really excited for this weekend as it’s almost home, living in Belgium, so I think it’s going to be great.”

In the EMX250 championship, Zach Pichon will once again be #racing alongside the rest of the #suzuki World team in the second round of their season. “During the week I will ride with the team in the sand, improve my technique and make some changes to the RM-Z250 which I’m very happy to be riding, so that it is all good for the weekend. Other than in Italy, the other races I’ve done with the team have been in the sand and I’ve had a good feeling, like in the last ADAC German race where I came second so I’m pretty confident in the sand and I hope to do well this weekend.”

The weather forecast is looking good and the team are motivated to put on a good show for the many #suzuki supporters in what should be a packed crowd at the #valkenswaard race track on Saturday and Sunday.
