Livia Lancelot of Team One One Four Kawasaki moved to within a point of the series leader at the halfway stage of the FIM World WMX Womens' #motocross Championship with a stunning victory in France.

The defending champion found herself closed down at the first turn of the weekend's opening #moto on Saturday afternoon to complete the first lap in sixth place, but, aided by the superb handling and power response of her KX250F, she showed her skill and fitness to snatch victory half a lap from the finish of the twenty-five minute race. The demanding hillside track at Ernee claimed the series leader Courtney Duncan mid-moto as Livia relentlessly closed on her other championship rivals. Still third with two laps remaining, Livia swept past Kiara Fontanesi for second before the Italian fell in an attempt to match her pace and then, with the chequered flag in sight, she pounced on tiring leader Nancy van de Ven for a remarkable win in front of a massive gallery of French fans. A better start on Sunday morning saw Lancelot ease into the lead after a few turns before Duncan found a way past and maintained a slender advantage to the chequered flag; Livia put her under pressure all the way to the final lap until backmarkers cost her contact and she sensibly settled for a safe second, secure in the knowledge that she would take the overall and be just one point away from the series lead at the halfway stage of the six round series. The series continues on July 22/23 at Loket in the Czech Republic.

Livia Lancelot: « It’s always nice to win a Grand Prix, but when it’s in your home country it’s magical, always! The first race was pretty tough as I had a bad start, but finally I came back and passed Nancy on the last lap to win the #moto. Today I was more focused at the gate, had a good start and had a good rhythm all race; it was great to have all the public behind me, it’s crazy but you hear them when you are on the bike. I didn’t win the second #moto; I tried but I avoided going over the limit as I knew that with a second position I would won the GP. There’s now only one point between me and the series leader and we have one month to prepare for the next GP; I’m sure that I will be even stronger there.”
