Alfa Romeo is sponsoring the first edition of the #mitteleuropeanrace that will be staged in Trieste from October 14 to 16. This classic car regularity rally will be held in some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. The course will lead from the Gulf of Trieste across the hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia touching Gorizia and Slovenia, in the geographic heart of Europe, home country of many great Italian drivers and stage for many great motoring events. The mind goes to Trieste-born Fulvio Bacchelli, who is one of the seven Italian drivers to have ever won at least one Rally World Championship race, and to the famous Rally del Carso e dei Colli Orientali and the very challenging but captivating Trieste-Opicina Hillclimb which were held in the area.

Alfa Romeo is actively supporting the #event and will presenting a line-up of past and current masterpieces. The public will have the opportunity to admire a 1900 C52 Coupé, informally known as the "Disco Volante" (Italian for flying saucer), in Piazza Unità d'Italia. The prototype made between 1952 and 1953 belongs to the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese (Milan), dubbed "The Time Machine". The car was designed by Gioacchino Colombo based on the 1900 Sprint, of which it preserves only a few components. The suspension system was similar but fitted on a tubular trellis chassis, while the 1997 cm3 twin shaft engine was entirely re-engineered with light allow crankcase and head, two overhead camshafts and single fuel supply. It delivered 158 HP and touched a top speed of over 220 km/h.

The body of the "Disco Volante" deserves a special mention. Made by Touring it combined aerodynamic research with the essentially American trend that saw car design taking inspiration from the world of flight. A "Fianchi stretti" ("narrow hips") body, which competed in several races, was developed in addition to the Coupé and Spider versions. The "Disco Volante" will also feature in an exhibition at the Museum in Arese dedicated to the masters of style, the great Italian coach builders who propelled Alfa Romeo to the pinnacle of aesthetic, aerodynamic and engineering research. The exhibition will close on January 10. For more information: link. A Giulia Quadrifoglio, the maximum expression of the "mechanics of emotions" concept, with its 510 HP, rear-wheel drive and perfect weight distribution, will be showcased, also in Piazza Unità d'Italia, next to the "Disco Volante".

Furthermore, Alfa Romeo will be organising test drives at Portopiccolo di Sistiana and on the Trieste seafront starting from Riva del Mandracchio, for participants and visitors. Everyone will be invited to drive Giulia and Giulietta and to admire Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, the iconic model, which represents the #racing spirit inherent in Alfa Romeo's DNA: astounding performance and engineering excellence aimed at top driving satisfaction that come together with a breathtaking style.
Alfa Romeo is keeping up the good work in Trieste after having won the 48th edition of the Barcolana regatta last Sunday. At the end of an exciting head-to-head to the third turning point, the Maxi 72 Alfa Romeo cut the finish line in a little less than one hour thrashing the competition of the other over 1750 boats taking part. Alfa Romeo spells sportiness and not only on the road.
