Pirelli is unbeatable in the Grand Prix of Latvia of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Kegums

Fifth MXGP victory of the season for Jeffrey Herlings who remains in command of the championship standings; Thomas Kjer Olsen wins in MX2 but the Red Plate still belongs to Pauls Jonass

Kegums (Latvia), 14 May 2018 – Hot weather at the Kegums circuit graced the Grand Prix of Latvia for the seventh round of the 2018 FIM World Motocross Championship. The beautiful Baltic circuit is formed from sandy but thick soil. Pirelli’s riders used the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear to tackle the terrain. The tyres of the Italian company proved to be up to the task and recorded victories and significant results in classes.

Jeffrey Herlings was again victorious in MXGP thanks to a strong double victory. The Dutchman also dominated the qualifying race and continues to lead the championship standings. Antonio Cairoli finished in second position behind Herlings in both races. Gautier Paulin was third for an overall for a clear Pirelli MXGP podium. There was a good race also for Tim Gajser who finished in fifth position.

In MX2, Thomas Kjer Olsen repeated victory at the site of his maiden success in 2017. The Dane prevailed in race 1 and was second in the next moto. Pauls Jonass did not manage to win his home race but finished third, increasing his lead in the championship standings over Jorge Prado. The Spaniard, fourth overall, was forced to make a hard comeback after crashing in the first race but won the second.

There was victory also for Pirelli in the fourth round of EMX250 European Championship thanks to Mathys Boisrame who beat Mikkel Haarup in the overall standing.

Next weekend the FIM Motocross World Championship will move to Teutschenthal for the Grand Prix of Germany.
