Jeffrey Herlings dominates the last race of the season
in the MXGP class. Jorge Prado wins both races and grabs the MX2 title
Imola (Italy), 1 October 2018 – The
Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit in
Imola hosted the last round of the
2018 FIM World Motocross Championship; the
Grand Prix of Italy. The beautiful and spectacular track built across the final part of the historic Italian facility that in 1948 hosted the first international motocross competition held in Italy was constructed from hard-packed terrain and rocky soil. In the conditions
SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear tyres were the winning choice of
Pirelli-equipped riders who achieved victories and podium placements in both classes. Plenty of Italian public filled the natural tribuna of Rivazza’s hill throughout the weekend.
Freshly crowned at Assen two weeks ago,
Jeffrey Herlings was peerless at Imola; dominating the qualifying race and both heats. There as an excellent second place for
Tim Gajser who was runner-up in both motos of
MXGP. Good positions also for
Gautier Paulin and
Jeremy Van Horebeek who took fifth and sixth overall positions respectively.
Antonio Cairoli suffered some bad luck and was forced out of the race due to a crash on Saturday.
Jorge Prado confirmed a great season for KTM by claiming the
MX2 title. The Red Bull KTM rider and Claudio De Carli’s latest protege arrived in Imola with the title already in his pocket thanks to
Pauls Jonass's absence due to a knee injury and took a double victory, owning the Grand Prix overall. Husqvarna factory riders
Thomas Olsen and
Thomas Covington finished second and third overall. Thanks to today's result the Danish rider confirmed third place in the championship standings.
To close the motocross season the
Red Bud circuit in the
United States of America will host the seventy-first edition of the
Motocross of Nations that will bring the curtain down on a full year of successes for
Pirelli and their riders.
