Turkish Puccetti Racing – Sixth place for Razgatlioglu in the first WorldSBK race at Portimao

The second day of this tenth round of the Superbike world championship played out today at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in #portimao, Portugal.
At the end yesterday’s two practices, #toprakrazgatlioglu was lying fourth, less than two tenths from the front. This morning, in warm and sunny conditions, the Turkish Puccetti #racing rider was out on track for the third and final practice and, with a time of 1’42”203, he concluded in eighth place in the combined standings.
In the late morning, Razgatlioglu took part in the tenth Superpole of the season. Second with the race tyre, once he moved over to the qualifying solution, Toprak improved on his laps time but not enough to secure a good grid position for the afternoon’s race. With a time of 1’41”578, Razgatlioglu concluded in thirteenth place, which meant a fifth-row star for the 20-lap race.
The Turkish Puccetti #racing rider made a particularly fast start, which allowed him to make up several positions straight away. Toprak then maintained a very strong pace to reach fourth place. At that point the tyres began to suffer and the bike to slide. Having battled with Haslam and Bautista, Razgatlioglu crossed the line in sixth place.
In the championship standings, Toprak now lies seventh with 201 points, and retains the lead in the special “Independent Riders” classification with a 56-point lead over second.
Tomorrow morning Toprak will take part in the 10-lap Tissot Superpole Race before returning to the track for the afternoon’s second race.

Toprak Razgatlioglu: “I got away well and made up many positions, getting all the way up to fourth. Once behind Van der Mark, I tried to reach him but it wasn’t possible. The bike began to slide around and it was difficult to ride. At that point, I tried to hold my position, but I wasn’t able to hold off Haslam and then Bautista, also because the Spaniard was really fast along the straight. Tomorrow it will be important to do well in the sprint race, to improve my grid position for race 2, in which – as long as I can start further ahead – I will try to keep pace with Rea, though it won’t be easy seeing the pace he had today. Thanks to my team for their hard work. Tomorrow I hope to repay them with a good result”.
