Track conditions make practice difficult for Mahias and Okubo at San Juan

Kawasaki Puccetti #racing has begun the eleventh round of the Supersport world championship at the San Juan Villicum circuit in #argentina. Following a fantastic win for #lucasmahias at the previous Magny Cours #event, Manuel Puccetti’s team takes on this penultimate round with the aim of condolidating their place at the top of the category.
Unfortunately, the Argentinian track is in poor conditions, dirty and slippery, which made life difficult for the technicians and riders. The first free practice took place in hot but windy conditions. Mahias (1’48”098) finished in sixth place, #hikariokubo (1’48”630) ninth
During the afternoon’s second practice, the track was slightly better but still precarious. Only Mahias was able to improve on his morning’s performance and, stopping the clock on 1’46”566, he rounded out the day in sixth place. With a time of 1’49”949, Okubo was unable to improve on his best lap and slipped down to fourteenth in the combined standings.
Tomorrow the pair will take part in the third and final practice, before pushing to the max in the afternoon’s Superpole, which will establish grid positions for Sunday’s race.

San Juan Villicum Circuit - #argentina - Supersport 600 world championship
Combined free practice results: 1) Perolari (Yamaha) – 2) Caricasulo (Yamaha) – 3) Krummenacher (Yamaha) – 4) Badovini (Kawasaki) – 5) Cluzel (Yamaha) – 6) Mahias (Kawasaki) ……… 14) Okubo (Kawasaki)

Lucas Mahias: “The bike worked well today but the track is disastrous. It’s incredible that a world championship has to race at a track in these conditions, which put the safety of riders at risk. I hope things are better tomorrow because we can’t race on a track like that of today. We started with the set-up we used at Magny Cours and I immediately found good feeling with the bike, so I’m optimistic ahead of tomorrow’s Superpole and thank the team for their great work today”.

Hikari Okubo: “We’ve had two tough sessions. This morning was worked on the bike and things didn’t go too badly. But in the afternoon, also due to the track conditions, I only finished fourteenth and so tomorrow I’ll really have to work to score a good grid position for Sunday’s race. The biggest problem is that the track is really dangerous in these conditions and you have to be very careful not to crash. It’s not possible that an important championship like ours is #racing at such a sandy track, which puts the riders at risk”.
