Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – A crash stops Forés in WorldSBK race 1 at Phillip Island

Kawasaki Puccetti #racing have completed the first Superpole and race of the season at the #phillipisland circuit in #australia. Yesterday saw #xavifores take part in the two free practice sessions, working hard with his team to find the best set-up for his Ninja at the beautiful Australian circuit. The Spaniard ended the day in tenth place, with a best time of 1’31”265.
This morning, under cloudy skies but on a dry track, Forés completed the third and final free practice in preparation for the subsequent Superpole. Xavi was able to improve on his best time set yesterday, setting a 1’30”796 to close in eighth position.
In Superpole, and after completing a few laps on the race tyre, the Spaniard put in the qualifying solution, further improving on his best time with a 1’30”222. This reference put him in tenth place, meaning a fourth row start for the afternoon’s race.
As the lights went out, Forés was unable to make a fast start and lost several positions as a result, lying twelfth through the first lap. Getting into a good rhythm, the Kawasaki Puccetti #racing rider soon made up ground, passing several riders. Unfortunately his recovery was brought to a halt with a crash on lap eleven. Xavi was unhurt but forced to retire from the race.
Forés will return to the track tomorrow for the 10-lap Tissot Superpole Race and the third race of this opening round, over a distance of 22 laps.

Xavi Forés: “We really could have done without the crash. My start wasn’t great, and I lost a few places. I tried to increase my pace to catch up but struggled to pass Davies, and once past time, I saw I was able to reach the group immediately ahead of me. Unfortunately I suddenly lost the front and crashed. I can’t understand what happened but that’s #racing for you. Luckily we have two more races tomorrow so I have a chance to make up for things. Thanks to my team for their great work”.
