Maxime Desprey took victory for Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy in the Swedish round of the European MX250 Motocross Championship at Uddevalla to advance to within two points of the series lead.
The French youngster took second place in his qualification group on Saturday morning, but was faced by tricky conditions during the opening points-scoring moto later in the day as the organisers saturated the track to combat the potential dust menace and thereby created very slippery conditions. Wisely taking a careful approach during the early laps Maxime increased his pace as the track dried out to record the fastest lap of the race two laps from the end to set his seal on his advance from fourth to second. After taking the holeshot in much drier conditions on Sunday morning he was never challenged and recorded a comfortable victory to clinch the overall win, his third in six rounds, for the weekend. His 47-point haul has taken him to within just two points of the series pacesetter with three rounds remaining.
Team mate Nicolas Dercourt underwent surgery last week to repair his knee ligaments, and will have now a long recovery period before being back racing.
Maxime Desprey: “It was a good weekend. It’s great to get another overall win as the last two rounds were not so good for me. I got a second position in the first moto on Saturday, but they put so much water on the track just before that race that it was dangerous and I took care in the early stages of the race. I found a better rhythm as the race wore on and recorded my fastest lap late in the race as I advanced to second. Today we had much better conditions; I had more fun and got the holeshot to lead the entire race. I’m now second in the standings; we worked a lot with Jacky Vimond in the sand and we’ll see what will happen next weekend in Latvia.”
