There will be twenty-two drivers on the grid for this year's FIA Formula 3 European Championship race at the Red Bull Ring. The field has shrunk a little compared to last year, but the level of performance has increased. Last year #maximiliangunther celebrated his first appearance in probably the strongest feeder series in the world by finishing eighth overall, and fifth in the rookie rankings. The driver from Oberstdorf has established himself in the top three this year, and intends to stay there until the end of the season. Like many of his fellow drivers, #maximiliangunther had his first motorsport experience in karts and has progressed steadily from there. In 2011 he finished second in the Formula BMW Talent Cup, and was runner-up twice at the ADAC Formel Masters. He made his debut in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship one year ago and has this to say about his first experiences of this race series: "It was very different to the classes I'd raced in before. The competition was much tougher and the battles on the track were harder too. You could change the setup of the car more and I learned a lot about tyre management. I was able to work really well with the #hankook tyres right from the start. That helped a lot in my first season." The 18-year-old has now got used to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and is challenging for the title this year. The experience gained in his rookie year is really helping the young driver, especially as far as the #hankook #racing tyres are concerned. #maximiliangunther: "I now know how important it is to warm the tyres up properly, and how your driving style can affect tyre management. The #hankook #racing tyre is perfect for me. I can calculate the peak and feel it in qualifying, and the tyre shows minimal wear in the race. It is a good combination of grip and consistency and is ideal for our race series." The first Formula 1 win for Max Verstappen in Barcelona has given the driver from Oberstdorf extra motivation. The Dutchman finished third overall in the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and then made the step up to Formula 1. "It is great to see what an impact Max has made in Formula 1. You can see what good training we get in Formula 3. HHis success spurs me on, as I have been dreaming of becoming a Formula 1 driver since I was six years old. This dream has become more realistic and I am giving my utmost to reach that goal," explains #maximiliangunther. The exclusive DTM partner #hankook has been providing the high-performance Ventus #racing tyre for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship since 2012 and supports talented young drivers as they develop a career in international motorsport, or progress directly to the top flight. Manfred Sandbichler, #hankook Motorsport Director Europe: "This feeder series was a stepping stone to Formula 1, not just for Max Verstappen but also for Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and many others. This year, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship is once again providing top-quality motorsport. Let's see which driver will be the next one to step up to the next level."
