Facts and figures from Suzuka: The 35th Japanese Grand Prix turned out to be yet another memorable occasion for Mercedes. The team has been unbeaten on the Suzuka Circuit since the beginning of the hybrid era in 2014. Last Sunday, #valtteribottas posted the team’s sixth consecutive victory on Japanese soil. He was joined on the podium by #lewishamilton in third place. With four races remaining, Mercedes now cannot be caught in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship. The outcome of the Suzuka weekend also means that only one of the team’s two drivers can win the drivers’ title. Mercedes have therefore already clinched their sixth world championship double in a row, an achievement that is unmatched by any other team in the 69-year history of the competition. In addition to his podium place, Lewis also set the fastest race lap, his fourth in Japan, which equals the record held by Michael Schumacher.

Title treble for Mercedes-AMG in the 2019 IMSA finale at Road Atlanta: A thrilling GTD season in the US IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has ended with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport securing the treble of driver’s, team and manufacturers’ championships in the Michelin Endurance Cup. In the final ten-hour race at Road Atlanta, the Riley Motorsports trio of Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED), Felipe Fraga (BRA) and Ben Keating (USA) in the number 33 Mercedes-AMG finished fourth in their class, a result that was enough to wrap up the treble. The prestigious Petit Le Mans race had been a real nail-biter as Fraga went into the final lap leading the field, but he was then obliged to retire before the end due to an empty tank. The Brazilian and his two co-drivers consequently dropped out of the Top Three, but because their main challengers for the championship finished a lap or more down on the eventual winner, the number 33 crew still retained their lead in the GTD endurance class of the series. After ten hours of #racing action, multiple changes of race leader and a number of safety car deployments, Bleekemolen and Keating together with Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports celebrated a third endurance title in succession.

Road Atlanta was also the venue for the highly anticipated GT4 season finale of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge which was contested on Friday. Thanks to a strong team performance and yet another podium finish, Mercedes-AMG also defended its lead in the manufacturers’ championship. Having previously won the drivers’ and team titles in 2018, the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach this time added a first ever manufacturers’ championship to its haul of trophies. Contributing in no small measure were the TGM pairing of Hugh Plumb and Owen Trinkler (USA, #46) who crossed the finish line in third place at the end of the two-hour race. Their team-mates Guy Cosmo and Ted Giovanis (USA) in the number 4 sister car finished seventh. Murillo #racing provided two further Top Ten results: Eric Foss and Jeff Mosing (both USA, #56) were eighth, Brent Mosing and Tim Probert (USA, #65) were tenth.

Successful run in the VLN continues: Mercedes-AMG Motorsport has continued its triumphal march in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring with a podium lockout. Winners in the eighth round of the current season were Maximilian Buhk (GER) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA) in the number 48 Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER, making it five wins in the last five races for the Affalterbach-based manufacturer. The other two podiums also went to Mercedes-AMG. In second place was the number 2 GetSpeed Performance car driven by Philip Ellis and Maximilian Götz (both GER). Claiming the remaining podium spot were Patrick Assenheimer and Manuel Metzger (both GER) in the number 6 car fielded by BLACK FALCON Team AutoArena Motorsport. Mercedes-AMG also had several class successes to report: Tobias Müller, Tim Scheerbarth (both GER) and Tristan Viidas (EST) in the number 162 BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA Mercedes-AMG GT4 were runners-up in the SP10 classification; Rooster Rojo GetSpeed J2 #racing (#23) and BLACK FALCON Team KNUFFI (#155) were third in their respective categories. The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 made a successful debut, posting very good lap times and finishing eighth overall, a result that might have been a lot better had it not been for the longer pit stops decreed by the competition regulations. But all in all, a good start to its career on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

AMG one-two victory and two titles in the International GT Open: Mercedes‑AMG came away from the last #event of the International GT Open at the Autodromo Nazionale Monzane with a one-two win and a brace of championship titles. In Saturday’s race, Fabrizio Crestani (ITA) and Miguel Ramos (POR) of SPS automotive-performance (#10) took the overall victory and were followed over the line by Riccardo Agostini and Loris Spinelli (both ITA) in the number 6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 fielded by Antonelli MotorSport. Meanwhile, Tom Onslow-Cole (GBR) and Valentin Pierburg (GER) of SPS automotive-performance (#20) were wrapping up the Pro-Am championship with a class P6 in the first race and a class P2 in the second. SPS automotive-performance ended the campaign third in the team championship, followed by Antonelli MotorSport in fourth. A Mercedes-AMG driver took first place in the 2019 Am championship: Giuseppe Cipriani (ITA) clinched victory in the category in the second race at Monza and thus secured the requisite points for the title. In the Am class, he finished four points ahead of Alexander Hrachowina and Martin Konrad (both AUT) of HTP Motorsport (#25) who came third and fourth respectively at Monza and thus shared the runner-up spot in the championship.

Dominant race weekend in the China GT Championship: Mercedes-AMG rounded off the GT3 season in the China GT Championship with a race win and several podiums. The highlight of the Shanghai International Circuit weekend was the win in the second race for Adam Christodoulou (GBR) and Eric Zang (CHN) in the number 63 Mercedes-AMG GT3 fielded by Toro #racing; they finish the season fifth in the drivers’ standings. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Lee (TWN) and Alessio Picariello (BEL) were consolidating second and third place respectively in the championship: the two EWS Craft-Bamboo #racing drivers (#88) took fourth place in the first race and the runner-up spot in the second; Sunday’s result meant a one-two win for the brand. Peter Yang Liao (TWN) won both the Saturday and the Sunday race in his class.

The GT4 title in the China GT Championship has gone to Chris Chia (CHN). On the final race weekend of the season in Shanghai, the Phantom Pro #racing driver (#5) partnered by Alex Fontana (SUI) won the Saturday race and finished third on Sunday. Taken together, the two results were enough for him to defend his lead over fellow Mercedes driver Will Bamber (NZL) of D2 #racing SPORT (#22) and his own team-mate Rainey He Xiaole (CHN) in the number 6 car. Mercedes-AMG also enjoyed successes in the team classification: Phantom Pro #racing won this particular championship by a wide margin.

A triumph, a class victory and multiple podiums in France, Brazil and Hungary: AKKA ASP team secured second place in the GT4 France team classification. This was mainly due to a strong second race at the Paul Ricard Circuit, in which the number 87 car driven by Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Jim Pla (both FRA) finished second, just ahead of third-placed Fabien Barthez and Aurélien Panis (both FRA, #16). P3 for Edouard Cauhaupé and Arthur Rougier (both FRA) in the number 187 Mercedes-AMG fielded by CD Sport on Saturday was enough for them to finish the season third in the drivers’ championship.

Mercedes-AMG can also look back on a gratifying weekend in the Endurance Brasil series. The two Mercedes-AMG GT3 pairings finished on the podium in their class, with Xandy Negrão and Xandinho Negrão (both BRA) in the number 9 Team Scuderia 111 making it onto the top rung. The number 22 Mercedes-AMG GT4 entered by Scuderia 111 took second place in its category.

Libor Milota (CZE) racked up three more podiums for Mercedes-AMG in the ESET V4 Cup at the Hungaroring. The veteran GT2 Motorsport driver sharing the cockpit of the number 2 car with Daniel Skalický took second place in Saturday’s Endurance Race before repeating the result in the solo race on Sunday. In the third and final race of the weekend - the sprint - he crossed the line in first position after starting from second on the grid. Milota finished the season as runner-up in the overall standings as well as in the sprint and endurance classification.
