Kawasaki Puccetti #racing – Double podium with Mahias second and Oettl third!

After having celebrated Lucas Mahias' fourth podium yesterday (the second consecutive one), #kawasakipuccettiracing was back on track at Barcelona for the eleventh race of the 2020 championship. In yesterday's race, complicated by a downpour, #philippoettl eventually finished eighth, after having battled long and hard with his team-mate for second place. The German was therefore keen to make up for this in today's race.

The race got underway in the late morning, in sunny conditions and on a dry track, and ran over a distance of 17 laps. Yesterday's Superpole results meant that Mahias lined up on the front row, Oettl on the second.

The two #kawasakipuccettiracing riders both got away well and were immediately part of the leading group. Through the first laps, Mahias was leading the way, followed closely by Oettl. As the race went on, the leading group, composed of six riders, broke away from the rest of the pack and at the mid-race point, Locatelli moved into the lead, followed by the two #kawasakipuccettiracing riders. In the final stages, Locatelli built a lead that allowed him to win ahead of Mahias and Oettl, who therefore scored a double podium that rewards both the riders' talent and commitment and the team's hard work.

For the French rider, this is his fifth podium of the season (three second-place finishes in the last three races), while this is Oettl's third podium earned so far in Supersport.

In the championship standings (Locatelli has already been mathematically crowned 2020 world champion), Mahias now lies second with 139 points, while Oettl holds fourth position with 108 points.

The next round of the Supersport world championship will take place over the weekend of 2-4 October at the Magny-Cours circuit in France.

Mahias

"The race was not too bad but again it was not possible to win. I tried to follow the lead but it was the same race as the others this season. It is not possible to ride at the rhythm of the yellow bike. For sure it is not easy, because when you start the race and think your best position is going to be second, it is not so nice. But this is #racing for this year. I am happy for my team and Kawasaki for my second position today and also because my team-mate finished third, so that is very nice for Puccetti #racing and Kawasaki too."

Oettl

"It was a tough job. I decided to use the super-soft tyre today but with ten laps still to go I felt, 'OK, there is a drop.' Then I was just sliding around but I tried to build up as much grip as possible. It was a very hard job to do this but I am happy. We also made a 2-3 with Kawasaki and I think I learned a lot this weekend. In the past two races we had not enough luck to finish on the podium but today feels really good."
