Imola, here we come: Next weekend, F1 returns to the historic Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix – it is only the second time that a race there has been staged under that name. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has fond memories of last year, when it contested its first Grand Prix at Imola. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton not only secured pole position and victory respectively, but the team also wrapped up its seventh consecutive Constructors’ World Championship. On their return this year, they expect an equally tough battle to the one fought against strong competition in the Bahrain season opener. The first victory in a Mercedes-powered car at Imola was achieved by David Coulthard driving a McLaren-Mercedes in the 1998 season. The brand with the three-pointed star has an overall tally of two victories, ten podiums and six pole positions to its credit at Imola.

Facts & figures from #rome: The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team already saw action in Italy last weekend, competing in the capital city #rome for the first time. The second race weekend in Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was contested on a street circuit laid out around the campus of the World Exhibition (Esposizione Universale di Roma). It turned out to be an emotional rollercoaster ride for the team, which started with #stoffelvandoorne booking his third pole position in the all-electric series. The team then suffered the frustration of an unlucky double retirement in the first race, but they weren’t going to let that knock them off their stride. On the contrary, Stoffel struck back in the second race on Sunday to record his second E-Prix victory, giving the team its second win of the season after Nyck de Vries’s triumph in the Diriyah opener. The third race weekend of the season takes the drivers and crew to Circuit Ricardo Tormo just outside Valencia in a fortnight’s time (24/25 April).

Customer #racing Teams start into title chase in Monza: Autodromo Nazionale Monza will serve as the venue for the opening round of this year’s GT World Challenge Europe at the weekend – one of four continental series within the GT World Challenge. Eight Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer #racing Teams will be participating in the renowned race series with 13 Mercedes-AMG GT3s. Mercedes-AMG Motorsport’s goal is to confirm last years’ huge achievements and to defend the drivers’ title as well as the Silver Cup drivers’ and teams’ titles. The schedule for the teams AKKA ASP Team, GetSpeed Performance, Haupt #racing Team, Madpanda Motorsport, SPS #automotive performance, RAM #racing, Toksport WRT and WINWARD #racing consists of five sprint and five endurance events with the Total 24 Hours of Spa (29th July-1st August) as the season highlight. The GT World Challenge Europe, together with its counterparts in America, Asia and Australia, is considered as the world’s most competitive GT championship. The achievements from the teams in the continental competitions decide the outcome in the battle for the manufacturers’ title at global level that went to Affalterbach in the past two years.

Podium in the season opener of the 2021 #supergt: In a highly absorbing and closely fought season opener of this year’s Japanese #supergt, LEON #racing got themselves onto the podium after the top four crossed the finish line of the #okayama International Circuit within one second of each other. Having started from third on the grid, Naoya Gamou and Togo Suganami (both JPN) held their ground against fierce challenges in the early stages and emerged onto the track in second position after the pit stop. In the second half of the race, they were hot on the heels of the race leader and looking to profit from any small mistake. At the end of the 77 laps distance, the number 65 Mercedes-AMG GT3 eventually had to settle for the runner-up spot, just 0.4 seconds behind the winning car. A successful start for the LEON #racing team, which finished last year’s championship in third place.

Father-son duo score hat-trick in the GT Cup Championship: Team ABBA #racing got off to a gratifyingly strong start in the British GT Cup Championship. Richard Neary and his son Sam Neary (both GBR) driving the number 88 Mercedes-AMG GT3 won three of the four races at Donington Park. The father-son duo started from pole position in all four rounds. Enduro Motorsport contributed another podium finish in the fourth race of the weekend, with Marcus Clutton and Morgan Tillbrook (both GBR) in the number 66 Mercedes-AMG GT4 finishing second in the GTH class.
