Return to France: The Formula One teams and drivers will be at Le Castellet this weekend for the seventh round of the 2021 season. With the French Grand Prix having been withdrawn from the calendar last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the highest echelon of motorsport now makes its return to the country. The 5.842 km Circuit Paul Ricard is one of seven venues to have staged the French Grand Prix. This year will be the 17th time that Le Castellet has hosted the event, which is only one fewer than Magny-Cours. Since France was restored to the F1 itinerary, the national Grand Prix has been a source of regular success for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. Lewis Hamilton won in both 2018 and 2019, and on the second of these two occasions, it was a one-two finish for the team with Valtteri Bottas crossing the line in second place. Lewis also booked pole position in both years. The most successful driver in the history of the French Grand Prix is Michael Schumacher, who has a tally of eight wins, followed by Alain Prost on six. In the team charts, Ferrari lead the way on 17 wins, ahead of Williams (8) and Lotus (7). Apart from the two triumphs achieved with Lewis, Mercedes can look back on one more victory on French soil, namely the 1954 French Grand Prix, when the immortal Juan Manuel Fangio spearheaded a Silver Arrows one-two with Karl Kling second as the W196 made its race debut.

Journey into the unknown: Next weekend, the ABB FIA #formulae World Championship visits Mexico for the sixth time. The first five E-Prix were all held in Mexico City, but this time the action moves to Puebla, around 100 kilometres to the east, where the all-electric #racing series makes its debut at the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed on Saturday and Sunday. The 2.982 km track poses several challenges: first of all, the circuit is uncharted territory for all of the drivers and teams, so consequently there is no data or knowledge from previous outings to draw on; secondly, the track is laid out in the infield of the oval circuit, which is home to the Mexican NASCAR series, and even incorporates one of the banked corners leading into the long home straight; and thirdly, the activation zone for the attack mode is further out than usual, which entails a greater loss of time. The Mercedes-EQ #formulae Team will therefore have to take a variety of factors into account in the high-altitude air of Puebla (2,200 metres above sea level). All the ingredients are there for two exciting races on Saturday and Sunday (19 and 20 June).

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport kicks off DTM season: The first races of the 2021 DTM next weekend (18 ‑ 20 June) at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza mark a resumption of a significant chapter in the history of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. Its 11 drivers', 14 team and seven constructors' titles make the Affalterbach-based performance and sports car brand by far the most successful manufacturer in the series. A strong driver and team line-up is set to build on these successes in the races which are to be held in accordance with the FIA GT3 regulations for the first time. Mercedes-AMG Motorsport will be fielding seven cars - more than any other brand. The five Mercedes-AMG teams GetSpeed Performance, GruppeM #racing, Haupt #racing Team, Mücke Motorsport and WINWARD #racing have recruited a top-class line-up in the shape of Maximilian Götz and Vincent Abril (#4 and #5 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT), Daniel Juncadella (#8 Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing) and Lucas Auer and Philip Ellis (#22 and #57, Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD), all of whom are highly experienced GT contestants. Arjun Maini in the cockpit of the #36 Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed will be the first Indian driver in DTM history. Two-time DTM champion Gary Paffett will make his comeback to the series in the #18 car of Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport. Due to a clash of engagements, Paffett will be replaced by Maximilian Buhk for the first two weekends of the season. The two opening rounds (Saturday and Sunday) on the Italian high-speed circuit will both start at 13:30 CEST.

City race and victory treble: Two Mercedes-AMG GT3s were in action in the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the Belle Isle Raceway. In the race staged on the Detroit street circuit, the two Customer #racing teams SunEnergy1 #racing and Alegra Motorsports finished in the Top Ten of the GTD class with a P7 and a P10 respectively.

Three races, three pole positions, three wins - Marcin Jedlinski (POL) driving the number 77 Mercedes-AMG GT3 fielded by Olimp #racing put in a dominant performance in the Eastern European ESET Cup Series races hosted by the Polish city of Poznan. In the two 25-minute sprint races and the one-hour endurance race, he wasn't going to let intermittent heavy rain stop his forward momentum. Piotr Wira (POL) of Good Speed #racing Team driving a second Mercedes-AMG GT3 also made it onto the third rung of the podium in both of the sprint races.
