Strong Points Scores For Kawasaki Riders

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Kawasaki Puccetti #racing competitors #canoncu and #philippottl finished eighth and ninth in the opening #portimao #worldssp race, with the top Ninja ZX-6R rider being Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac #racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) in fourth place.

Having qualified fifth in Superpole earlier in the day Öncü was in the early leading mix of the 17-lap race. He ran a close second to championship leader Dominique Aegerter on lap one and then passed him to lead the next lap.

As the grip levels dropped Can gradually slipped back to finish in eighth place, nine seconds from the race winner.

Öttl, who had qualified in ninth place, was also limited in his ultimate ambitions in this race and he eventually finished up ninth, scoring points but hoping for much more from Sunday’s Race Two.

Öttl is looking at making changes to allow him to fight for higher positions inside the top ten and continue his drive to finish inside the championship top three by season end. He is currently fourth in the points with Oncu tenth.

The opening race of the final day in Portugal will be #worldssp Race Two, scheduled for 12.30 local time.

Philipp Öttl, stated: “It was a hard race today; very fast at the front and I was not fast enough. I felt not bad on the bike, just not fast enough. Here, it seems like some of the other riders have the little bit extra that I had in Jerez, so it is was very difficult today. At the moment is a challenging to extract the most out of the bike. For tomorrow I have an idea what we can change to get a little bit closer and to have a little bit of a better feeling.”

Can Öncü, stated: “I think the start was good and the first laps also but when we started to lose grip it began to get really difficult. There was nothing I could do about this. I tried everything I could but I couldn’t do more. It was like this to the end. We need to keep pushing tomorrow.”

Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac #racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) put in one of his best riders of the year to take fourth place, having qualified sixth. He passed a rival on the final lap to move up from fifth to fourth. He was only 0.669 seconds from the race win, as the first four riders battled for supremacy around the long final loop from T14 to T15 and then across the start/finish line.

Leonardo Taccini (Orelac #racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) just missed out on a points scoring position by finishing 16th in Race One. Shogo Kawasaki (G.A.P. Motozoo #racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) did not race today. Portuguese rider Pedro Nuno Romero Barbosa (G.A.P. Motozoo #racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) was 25th in his local race.
