The CUPRA e-Racer, raring to go for another win

Starting the FIA ETCR season with three of the #cupra EKS team drivers on the podium in Pau Ville (France) was a very good omen. But continuing that lead in this weekend's second race at the Hungaroring (Hungary) with #adrientambay as "King of the Weekend" and Mattias Ekström as second proves this good run is no coincidence. We already knew last season that they had an unbeatable car. And this season, the e-Racer has only gotten better. #cupra #racing technical director Xavi Serra, together with #cupra Vice-President for R&D Dr. Werner Tietz unveiled some of the car’s new details a few days before the next race at the Jarama circuit (Spain) where they hope to “go out and win again.”
Tested on the track. Before the start of the season, the #cupra EKS team completed six days of testing at the Hungaroring and Vallelunga tracks. “We mainly focused on two areas: performance and safety. We strengthened the suspension so that we can have a better chance at winning every race, as the car is shared by the drivers. Making it more robust and safer has also been one of our priorities” Xavi explains. With Dr. Tietz at the wheel, the #cupra e-Racer is tested on the Castellolí circuit. “It’s crucial that we improve the #cupra e-Racer, because it was the winning car last season, so we have to work hard to stay on top” says Dr. Tietz.
Maintain the winning streak. The car’s set-up was already very good after finishing highest on the leaderboard last year. But they wanted it to be even better as they try to defend the title this season. Dr. Tietz’s first impressions are excellent: “The steering response is fantastic, and the feeling of the brake pressure is perfect. It’s also very well balanced, which makes it easy to drive” says Dr. Tietz, adding, “The suspension is also top notch. Even along bumpy stretches there’s no lost contact with the ground. It’s very agile and stable.
The hard work of the #cupra #racing team is obvious. They want to clench the title again, and with the strong results achieved in these first two rounds of the championship, we are on the right track.”
A sturdier #cupra e-Racer. Additionally, the bodywork has been made lighter without changing its shape. “We’ve increased safety by adding a hatch on the roof, and the windows are made of plastic so that they can be removed quickly and give quicker access to the driver” adds the head of #cupra #racing. Meanwhile, Dr. Tietz emphasises that “it’s fantastic that some parts of the electric race car can be easily replaced, if necessary, so that we can continue on the track and not lose any points.”
Raring to go out and win” at Jarama. From June 17 to 19, the e-Racer will be back on the tracks of the historic Jarama circuit, once again battling for points. There, the team, Mattias Ekström, Jordi Gené, #adrientambay and #tomblomqvist, will start to try to win the entire podium. “We knew we had a great car and the best drivers, but I must admit we didn’t expect this result. This year the FIA ETCR grid is incredible, so it was a surprise to finish with three of our drivers in the top four at Pau Ville. And the result at the Hungaroring with #adrientambay as King of the weekend gives us wings to dream. We hope that in Jarama we can continue along this line of success”, concludes Xavi.
