First race for #paulloupchatin with #charlesmilesi and #lilouwadoux at Monza

The new trio battled for the podium before being crashed into during the race

Richard Mille #racing Team is tenth in the championship ahead of Fuji (11 September)

Monza hosted the start of the second half of the FIA #WEC season with Paul-Loup Chatin's arrival alongside #charlesmilesi and #lilouwadoux. From Friday onwards, the team was hard at work during productive tests despite a stop-and-go for not respecting track limits and an issue with the rotary actuator coupled to the gearbox selector barrel. The #richardmilleracingteam completed its programme in time for qualifying and #charlesmilesi was immediately in the leading group before a small mistake forced him to put on a set of new tyres. The No. 1 Oreca-Gibson was run into by an unsafe-released LMP2 car before a red flag took away any hope of #charlesmilesi improving.

Ninth on the LMP2 category grid on Sunday, #charlesmilesi got off to an excellent start with a series of overtakes to move into the top five in just two laps. Always efficient in adjusting his strategy to race incidents, the team continued to march forward, moving up to second place after a superb triple stint by the French driver. #lilouwadoux took over with seriousness and determination to consolidate the team's position in the leading group against some of the best Endurance drivers before #paulloupchatin took over at mid-race. The newcomer quickly found the right balance between management and attack to climb back onto the provisional podium before being hit by the No. 9 Prema with two hours to go. 

The incident caused a problem with the gearbox that required repairs in the garage. Despite all the efforts, the team's hopes for a result worthy of its performance were over as the No. 1 Oreca-Gibson eventually returned to the track in the last hour to allow #lilouwadoux to gain more experience. Fourteenth at the chequered flag, #richardmilleracingteam could nevertheless be satisfied with its excellent pace before being eliminated from the battle for the podium. Despite this result, the team is still in the top ten of the FIA Endurance LMP2 Trophy before the final two races of the season at Fuji (11 September) and Bahrain (11 November).

Charles Milesi: "Despite the disappointment, we have confirmed the leap forward we made at Le Mans. Thanks to our private test at #Monza, we knew that we would be well placed, and we found solutions to what prevented us from extracting our full potential. There is still work to be done, as the other teams will not let up, but our pace put us easily in the top five. The incident is a shame, but that's #racing. The assessment is nevertheless positive, and now we have to focus on Fuji to confirm our progress with a strong result."

Lilou Wadoux: "It was a really productive week, and perhaps the first race of the year where we performed so well thanks to the incredible work put in by the whole team. Unfortunately, it didn't pay off, but we must remember the many positives. Beyond the performance and our progression curve, the team was perfect on the strategy, and we had everything we needed to aim for a top-five or even better. And it's all the more frustrating that we now have to wait two months before the next race!"

Paul-Loup Chatin: "I have mixed feelings after this weekend. It's extremely positive because I think we had a good momentum going, and we were fighting for a great result, in line with our targets, but unfortunately, we lost a lot when we got hit. It's frustrating when you consider how exceptionally well the team worked and how much we wanted to show that there was something good to do. I loved this week despite the incident we had. Now we must work hard to convert this great alchemy into results."

Philippe Sinault, Team Principal: "We took another step forward this weekend. Obviously, we are very disappointed as our performance deserved at least a top five finish, if not better given our strategy. The team has been working extremely hard since the beginning of the year, but something clicked at Le Mans, and the arrival of Paul-Loup strengthened this trend. He has been a true team player, especially with Lilou, whom he has taken under his wing to help her improve. Their work with Charles, who made an exceptional start to the race by moving up to second place while managing his tyres perfectly, was fantastic. Unfortunately, the incident broke something in the gearbox. We chose to rejoin the race because the team deserved it, and we wanted Lilou to continue to put in the miles before Fuji, where we hope to build on our momentum, and be more successful."
