M-sport to launch 2023 WRC2 championship assault on rallye Monte-carlo

M-Sport Ford World #rally Team will contest the WRC2 support category with two Ford Fiesta Rally2s on the opening round of the 2023 #fiaworldrallychampionship.

Existing M-Sport driver #adrienfourmaux and Ford newcomer #gregoiremunster team up for the championship charge.

As M-Sport’s flagship customer competition car, the Fiesta Rally2 represents the legacy of the Fiesta and its achievements in the hands of M-Sport’s valued customers. The Fiesta has secured more than 2,000 victories around the globe, and this year alone saw the Fiesta Rally2 and its predecessor, the Fiesta R5, secure no fewer than 13 regional championships.

Adrien Fourmaux will lead the team’s attack on the FIA World #rally Championship’s premier support series.

M-Sport remains committed to Fourmaux and demonstrates its faith in his potential behind the wheel, with a WRC2 campaign best placed to continue developing his skills and experience.

Fourmaux first took to the wheel of a #rally car in 2017 and is familiar with the Fiesta Rally2, taking victory with M-Sport’s most successful global #rally car at Islas Canarias as part of the 2020 FIA European #rally Championship. The Frenchman has also claimed 33 WRC2 stage wins and six WRC2 podiums including three back-to-back podiums in Monte-Carlo from 2019 to 2021.

Joining Fourmaux to aid in M-Sport’s championship charge is #gregoiremunster. No stranger to the feeder category, or to the roads of Monte-Carlo, Munster will make his Fiesta Rally2 debut in January. Munster delivered a commendable performance on the season opener earlier in 2022, achieving fifth overall in WRC2 and even setting a fastest time within the category.

A proficient asphalt driver, Munster recently claimed an impressive first overall in the WRC2 Open and Junior categories at #rally Japan, as well as his first top-ten overall finish with sEventh place behind a fleet of Rally1s.

The young Luxembourger also claimed two additional podiums in the WRC2 Junior category at Rallye Monte-Carlo and Ypres #rally Belgium; the team look forward to helping him develop his skills and accolades further in 2023.

Richard Millener, Team Principal, said:
“The Fiesta Rally2 programme is a central component of daily operations here at M-Sport. As our flagship customer car, we want to see the Fiesta Rally2 competing on WRC stages against its market competitors. The best way we can promote the continued popularity of the Rally2 is by vying for the championship and this is something we think is very achievable.

“I’m pleased to still have Adrien as part of the team as we launch the 2023 season and think this return to Rally2 will be an interesting challenge for him. He has seen success in WRC2 in the past and we know Monte Carlo is somewhere he can deliver results.

“I’m also looking forward to welcoming Grégoire to the team for the first time. It’s always nice to see new talent within our ranks and he has a strong record that we hope to build on. Grégoire gave a fantastic performance in Japan last month, and we will hope to see more of that when he joins us in Monte.”

Adrien Fourmaux said:
“I’m really pleased to be part of the team for the fourth year in a row, and I’m looking forward to being back in Monte Carlo next month. We have the opportunity to do an #Event with the Fiesta Rally2 just after Christmas which will be perfect preparation for Monte Carlo. I want to say a big thank you to the team for giving me their trust and the opportunity to drive in 2023, and look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Grégoire Munster said:
“I have recently been to visit M-Sport at Dovenby Hall to meet the team and the facilities and infrastructure are fantastic; the workshop and the new building are quite impressive. The track was very nice to drive on as well, especially with the icy conditions!

“The plan for next year is to compete a lot of Events in the Rally2, making use of my previous experience and discovering some Events for the first time. I need to adapt to the car and want to perform well and get some good results.

“M-Sport is a real talent factory; if you look at Evans, Tänak, Neuville, they all come from M-Sport. I think it is the best place to evolve as a driver, the team is nice to work with and the car is strong. We have a good season ahead so the focus will be to maximise my work with the team to get some experience and grow as a driver.”
