Munich. BMW M Motorsport has signed Robin Frijns (NED) as a works driver. Among other things, the 31-year-old will be involved in BMW M Team WRT’s test work with the BMW M Hybrid V8. The LMDh prototype is being prepared to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the 2024 season. Frijns’ first race outings will be decided at a later date. Frijns is the 22nd works driver in the BMW M Motorsport squad.

Robin Frijns was a member of the BMW M Motorsport family early on in his racing driver career. In 2010, he won the Formula BMW Europe title, making him the last champion in the junior racing series. Frijns went on to make a name for himself with success in various series including the DTM, in which he won three races and finished third overall in 2020. Together with the WRT team, Frijns was crowned champion in the LMP2 class in WEC in 2021 and also celebrated a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FRA). He won the Bathurst 12 Hour (AUS) in 2018, claimed the Blancpain GT Sprint title in 2017 and the Blancpain GT Series Driver’s title in 2015. In 2022, he was victorious at the Nürburgring 24 Hours (GER). The Dutchman has also enjoyed great success in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “With his versatility and wealth of experience in prototype racing, Robin Frijns is a fantastic addition to our squad of works drivers. He will initially be involved in the test programme with the BMW M Hybrid V8 for WEC. He knows the team and the race series very well and can certainly make a valuable contribution to a successful preparation for the 2024 season. A glance at his previous successes shows that Frijns is also an extremely good GT driver. However, we will make a decision regarding any possible race outings at a later date. First of all, we are very pleased to have him with us in the BMW M Motorsport family.”
