Ott Tänak (4th) said:

"It's been an okay morning with a couple of good times but we need to find a bit more if we want to fight for the top positions. Overall we are not so far, but we want to be closer and to do that we need to figure out how to be faster than the guys in front. We will try our best, and the podium is only five seconds away so let's see what we can do in the afternoon."

Sébastien Ogier (7th) said:

"It's not often that we see such a big change in conditions through Nambucca. The beginning was very wet but after 12 or 15 kilometres it was completely dry. It's a wonderful stage and hopefully we will have a chance to do something in there this afternoon.

"On Newry we went straight on at a junction and lost quite a few seconds. It was a slippery section, but my pacenotes might have been a bit ambitious and maybe I was missing a little bit of focus too.

"We're not really in a fight this weekend and you can lose some motivation when it's like that.  Hopefully our road position won't be as big of a disadvantage on the second pass and we can try for some good times."

Elfyn Evans (9th) said:

"We knew that today would be a challenging one for us. The stages are fantastic but we've just not had the traction to attack them. We're here to do a job and we'll continue with that – remaining focused and getting the experience for the future."
