The Italian Andrea Mabellini celebrates the victory in Abarth Rally Cup in the Rally Islas Canarias

• Mabellini also achieves the 2nd place in the ERC2 ranking of the European championship
• In the Spanish #rally Polonski wins the last race of the #abarth #rally Cup 2020 

A competitive grand finale in a showstopper Canary Islands #rally, the last appointment of the #fiaerc European Championship, valid for the #abarth #rally Cup. 

In the last #abarth #rally Cup’s race the Polish team #dariuszpolonski and Lukasz Sitek is in first place with the #abarth 124 #rally of Rallytechnology Team. Behind them stand the Italian #andreamabellini and Nicolò Gonella, with the spider of the Bernini #rally team and the Napoca #rally Team’s colours. 

Even though he was mathematically champion before the start, #andreamabellini closed his season with a great performance in the Canary Islands, achieving the second place in a race valid for the single-seated Scorpio’s championship and, thanks to his second place in the ERC2 class - which is a category for the four-wheel drive cars with a turbo engine and the “Gran Turismo” RGT - he closed the season achieving the second place in the ERC2 classification of the European championship. 

The Canary Islands #rally was heavily influenced by the weather, with sudden storms that made choosing the tyres very difficult. Even in favorable conditions for the four-wheel drive cars, the #abarth 124 #rally was the best performing car in its ERC2 category, winning 10 out of 17 races. Polonski managed to control the first leg of the race, but in the second, he lost more than 1 minute because of consequences of an off-roading that lead him to a comeback, missing the victory by just 9”1. 

Andrea Mabellini: “it was a very difficult weekend, but we are well happy for how we raced in the whole championship. It was an incredible experience, in which I have learned a lot. The itineraries of the races of the European championship were very different between each other and all of the rallies were very long and difficult. I thank every person that allowed me to race at these high levels”. 

Mabellini’s 2020 season will continue next week in the Monza ACI #rally, the last race for the WRC World championship and the FIA RGT cup, the GT championship, in which he is in first place together with the Belgian Jean Luc Caprasse, in an #abarth 124 #rally as well.
